About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To explore life and the boundaries of existence; live with passion and art, breathe each moment with appreciation.

ABOUT ME

I am Kiam Marcelo Junio. I'm a queer performance and visual artist enjoying life here in Chicago. I'm also a yoga teacher.

PHILOSOPHY

I aim for the Utilitarian ideal of the striving and promoting the greatest amount of happiness for the largest number of people.
On more personal level, I seek to strive beyond immediate pleasures and the search for power and importance. Above these is happiness gained through selflessness and self-actualization, a return to the interior to affect the external world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I seek other couchsurfers when I travel, whether to stay at their place, or at least meet for a drink/tour around the city. I find that CS attracts a lot of like-minded people who love to travel and forge communities. I'm happy to be a part of it.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I met some wonderful Canadians and fellow ex-pats in Prague, and they made it a truly memorable experience. We did New Year's Eve 08-09 at a Couchsurfing Party on top of a hill, overlooking the whole city of Prague, watching fireworks explode on all sides. I also stayed at a couchsurfer's place in Antwerp, Brussels, London, Barcelona, Berlin, and Stockholm.

I've hosted quite a few different people. In one instance, I had an impromptu party in my house filled with local friends and couchsurfers where something like, 10 countries were represented! we had a Mediterranean feast and a lovely jam session. the beauty of couchsurfing!!!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've spent the summer of 2011 changing my life in many ways, while traveling through Central America, Mexico, and California, USA.

I've gone skydiving twice, and am aiming to do it again. and again. Nothing compares to that thrilling feeling of flying - only you, the sky, and the horizon all around you. It's such a thrilling, yet peaceful feeling.

I was in Madrid (@ Plaza Cibeles) when Spain won the 2010 FIFA World Cup! It was a wonderful experience to be in the Center of the World that night! The energy was palpable and shared by everyone in the streets. It's probably the closest to world peace we'll ever get.

While in Haiti, helping with the earthquake relief efforts, I worked closely with very sick children, and had an epiphany, that machines are, after all, just machines. It takes more than pushing buttons to show your care and to share your humanity.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a registered Yoga Teacher! I love to share and expand my knowledge by practicing with people and joining in their discovery of yoga and an inner awareness of their own bodies.

I love to cook for people! The more food, the more people, the more interesting.
