About Me

I just graduated from college and figured I'd rather do some traveling and have some fun than bother with all that 'career' business. Umm.. I'm from southern California but I went to school on the northern end of the state. I'm interested in meeting people and gathering stories. Part of the reason I studied journalism is because most of my conversations resemble interviews anyway - I like to ask questions about people, I like to hear about what others have experienced, because I love to be surprised by how different our worlds are. It's a good reminder that you don't know much beyond what you've seen, that you really only understand *this* much.

I'm also a musician. I would be only too happy to play you a song or two in exchange for a bed, in addition to a meal or something of the like.

Just to clarify, I'm not learning Spanish, I just know a little bit, but there's no section for "languages you can ask to find the library in."
I also know a touch of Swahili, and Korean.

I can be sarcastic, my friends say I'm funny and a little weird (I take it as a compliment though). I don't know, "about me's" are weird. If you want to know more, check out my travel blog - www.donuts23.com . that should give you a good perspective on my perspective.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet new people, and experience new places the way that the locals experience them. To hear new stories and learn about day to day life in places far removed from where I grew up and live.

Interests

I play guitar, I make music, I read books (more on that later). I make art sometimes, when the mood strikes. I've done a bit of rock climbing, just enough to entice me into wanting to do it more. I can cook, sort of, but I need to learn more. I like riding my bike. I like to write. I enjoy a friendly debate. In college I had a radio show, which I miss doing very much.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - Sturgill Simpson, Tera Melos, The Replacements, Pixies, Animal Collective, The Mountain Goats, Modest Mouse, Kool A.D.

Books - the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, catch 22, ender's game, flowers for Algernon.

Movies - I'll watch pretty much anything. Except for sex and the city.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Played guitar for Masasi tribesmen in Olduvai, Tanzania

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you a bit of guitar. How to sew (badly). I'm full of random trivia and pop culture knowledge. If you want to know which band once drove a backhoe through a concert venue wall I can tell you.

I want to learn about life - what are your stories, what are your perspectives, how do they challenge mine.

Let's share a conversation, have a moment.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Total appreciation for anything they can offer. A new set of eyes to experience a familiar place. A goofy sense of humour and a genuine interest in experiencing new things. Mediocre meals cooked with love. A song or two, if they want to hear it. Cheesy jokes and puns.
If you ever want to come to southern California I can offer a place to stay, provided I'm still living there. I might be somewhere else by the time someone takes me up on this .

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Belgium, England, France, Malta, Netherlands, Spain, Tanzania

Countries I’ve Lived In
