About Me
Hi! I'm on my very first solo adventure in another country right now, which is Mexico. Mexican culture is super fascinating to me, and I'm here to explore its history, its arts and learn the Spanish language. I'm bouncing around from city to city (Guanajuato being my favorite so far) and I've found my most meaningful experiences arising from the fast but deep friendships I've made; so if we happen to be in the same place at the same time, I'd love to meet up and hear about your experiences and share our knowledge!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
For one, I'm trying to travel on a budget. But more importantly, the knowledge of place you get from locals is so much more than a hotel or even hostel can offer. I'm looking for experiences outside the regular tourist trail, and to make great friends in the process.
Music, Movies, and Books
Currently reading Pedro Paramo by Juan Rulfo. Incredible. When I can read in Spanish I will read it again in its own language. I don't remember the last time I wasn't in the middle of one or two books.
I'm a huge fan of international cinema. Films of a unique or novel nature are my favorite. Same goes for music.. the more thoughtful experimentation, the more I receive from it. This isn't to say I'm not down with going out to a Reggaeton or Cumbia club, or watching something just for fun; I'm into most music genres and I love to have a good time in any context.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I recently spent two months in the mountains of Big Sur, California, building cabins and greenhouses, and planting an orchard on my friends property. One of the cabins was to belong to a cancer patient who has lived in a tent as a hermit for the past twenty years. During this time I was living completely off the grid in the back of my truck, bathing and collecting my water from a nearby spring. I wrote about the psychological experience of this time in a short book I published and distributed myself. The whole thing was an immense learning experience for me and I'm very proud of what my friend and I accomplished.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can certainly share my enthusiasm as a learner and explorer. Sharing stories over a beer or tea is one of my favorite things. I'm a very clean person and I will always offer my help in cleaning up after meals or doing chores around the house. I'm also an electronic musician and I have a small synthesizer and sampler with me, which I would love to show you how they work and have some weirdo jam sessions!
