About Me

I'm currently an undergraduate student doing a research internship at the University of Gdansk, Poland. My area of research is Physics, particularly General Relativity.

I can play the guitar, piano, and can sing on good days :D

I love experiences, and meeting new people. I love just being and experiencing. Life doesn't always need to be extravagant. It's always about the journey, more so the destination for me. I think everyone is searching for something deep within, and I'd love nothing more than to meet you where you are, and to exchange stories!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love to experience the culture of the place I'm traveling in. And what better way is there than by getting to know and by talking to locals? I feel like I can get to know and appreciate the culture better by direct interaction with locals. Plus, meeting new people when I'm in a new place opens doors to many more new experiences!

The other reason is to expand my accommodation options when traveling. I don't like to limit myself when I travel, so I'd always like to keep my options open, and Couchsurfing is one of those ways.

Music, Movies, and Books

There are a bunch of artists I really love, but if I had to choose a favourite band/artist, it would have to be Coldplay. But my current rotation consists of Bruno Major, Cody Fry, Sarah Kang, Post Malone, Taylor Swift, Linkin Park, Against The Current, Joji, LilyPichu, Jacob Collier. So, mostly pop and some rock, and a little bit of rap and hip hop.

I love watching musicals, like Mamma Mia, La La Land, and my most recent favourite, "Tick, Tick, Boom!" (starring Andrew Garfield). In general, I love "slice of life" movies, be it romantic, a true story, or mind bending. I love movies that inspires me to think, to act, or to reflect after watching them.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

So there was this one time in Malaysia, I had to call an Uber to get to another state from my hometown (to Penang from Kedah). I was supposed to meet my family there for a short staycation. So, to get there, it was a 1 hour drive. But for some reason the driver didn't use his GPS, and he asked me where the place was precisely. There was some sort of miscommunication between us, because he was speaking in Malay and it's not my first language; he spoke really quickly and I misunderstood what he meant.

The place I ended up telling him was 30 minutes before the destination, and being a stupid 16 year old kid back then I didn't know the directions to the destination location. Now, he didn't get mad or anything, but offered to take me to the intended location. So, the thing about us Malaysians, is that most of us are really chill (sometimes a bit too chill), so, when he stopped at the gas station to refuel his car, he asked me if I knew how to drive. Mind you, the legal driving age for Malaysians is 17 years old, and even though I knew the basics of how to drive, I have NEVER been on the highway before. So, naturally *sarcasm*, I told him yes, I knew how to drive. AND HE LET ME TAKE THE WHEEL. This is the craziest Uber driver I've ever seen in my life. And he sat in the passenger seat with his seat reclined to get some shut eye.

To clear things up a bit, I said yes to driving because at this point my parents were getting really anxious about why the Uber was so slow and wanted to know my precise location. And prior to this entire thing, the Uber driver cancelled the trip on the app and asked if I could just pay him off the books because the app didn't take into account toll fees. And because he didn't do things by the book, and because there was a misunderstanding in the destination location, I myself got a little bit frustrated as well. So, I started driving his Toyota Vios. (In hindsight yes, this was really dangerous and I could've gotten kidnapped or something, but thank God I'm still here today).

It was my first time ever driving on a real road (when I mentioned I knew how to drive earlier, it was always with my dad next to me and we were cruising around the neighbourhood), and not just a road, but the fucking highway. I was taken over by my adrenaline from being a bit too frustrated, and from the fact that I was about to drive on the highway as a 16 year old, and so, I went 140km/h on the road. My first time behind the wheel on the highway officially. It was crazy.

To cut the long story short, I arrived safely at my intended destination (I used Waze on my phone), and upon arrival, I had to quickly switch seats with the driver at the last second before my parents stepped out onto the sidewalk to see me in the driver's seat. It was fucking crazy but that memory stuck with me till now.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach English, Math and Physics. Aside from academics, I can teach you how to play the piano and guitar. I love playing and singing, so, I can teach you how to do that.

I know Chinese and Malay aside from English, so I can teach you how to speak a new language in a few days if you want, haha.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can cook. Normally, I cook pasta with either chicken breasts or pork chops. I occasionally use ground beef to make the (tomato) pasta sauce with, in which case I don't use chicken breasts or pork chops anymore. But I'd say I'm pretty good at pan-frying things. My dad used to love cooking steaks when I was younger, and I'd always see him do it, and he taught me a few tips and tricks. Now, having been staying in Poland for a month and a half and cooking most of my own meals, I am pretty confident in my ability to pan-fry almost anything. (That's not really a brag but still).

I can clean.

I can play music for any gathering or anything you might have that may need some lightening of the mood, or just wanna have some good vibes in general.
