About Me

Hey all! I'm a Canadian currently living in Nanaimo, BC, Canada. Formally lived in Germany so lots of my profile still reflect that...

I was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada and moved to Nanaimo, B.C. Canada shortly after. Because of this, most of my family including my brother live in Halifax, but all of my friends live in Nanaimo. This leads me to have gone across Canada a dozen times, and to have a pretty good knowledge of Canada.

The only major Canadian city I haven't passed through is Toronto.

In 2014 I backpacked through central Europe and the Balkans for three months and, like for many, it was an eye opening experience. I realized I didn't' want to spend my entire life in Canada so I enrolled in German language classes and dedicated at least 2-3 hours of self learning a day, and applied for any exchange programs I could. I got lucky, got the best one I could hope for and now live in Magdeburg, Germany, with some awesome roommates.

I have a degree in European History with a minor in (political) philosophy and might consider continuing my education after picking up a few languages, hopefully Russian but probably French, just because of how useful it is in Canada.

Native English and intermediate/advanced German. Intermediate means I can definitely talk only in German, I also probably cannot talk about finalities of Hegelian Dialectic in German.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I thought it would be a better way to get to know a city or town compared to a hostel, where people are more interested in drinking and seeing another old church. I'm just as interested in meeting and hanging out as I am in actually couch surfing. I would definitely come visit people who offer if they live near to Germany.

Interests

I'm interested in language and German is my first foreign language. After that I would really like to learn Russian, though I might learn French instead because it is very useful in Canada.

I love eastern Europe and the Balkans and would definitely come to visit again.
