About Me

Hello. So having got a bit fed up with working an office job and living in big cities, I took a break from work to travel around a bit. I have no real plans with where I go and what I do, which is a nice place to be in! I guess I'll just be going until the money runs out, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it...

I grew up in the countryside and being around nature is something that's always been very important to me. Getting away from the craziness of major cities is something that I'm often looking for whilst travelling. It gives me some important space to balance myself and nature's beauty is something that never fails to put a smile on my face.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I chose to sign up after a housemate hosted some couchsurfing at our place, seeing how fun and rewarding it was to do just made me want to get involved.

I guess I'm on couchsurfing for all the usual reasons, to meet lots of people and make new connections, to help people out when they need somewhere to stay and to help me travel in a different way, so that I can get a different perspective on places I visit.

Interests

I'm a super keen road cyclist and really love cycle touring. My ideal way to see somewhere is by my own pedal power, with some panniers strapped to my bike.

Another great love of mine is surfing. Growing up in rural UK didn't offer many surfing opportunities, but since I learned how 5 years ago, I just can't get enough. I've been fortunate enough to be able to travel the world to surf, seeing some amazing places on the way.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love to read. A day where I do nothing but read is a day well spent in my eyes. Favourite current author is definitely Paul Auster, also a huge fan of Murakami and Julian Barnes. For travel and nature writing, check out Horatio Clare, some of the most moving non-fiction I've ever read.

Stock answer to music is that I'll listen to anything, but funk, soul & disco if you really have to pin me down.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Quitting my job to volunteer as an engineer, working on reconstruction projects on Nepal was a pretty special experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

Unless you want to learn about marine engineering and ship design, I don't know what I can teach you... But. One of my favourite things to do is to talk to people about the things that they are passionate about. So whatever that might be, I want to hear about it! It's sort of selfish really, this way I get to learn about something new and the enthusiasm always rubs off on me!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Hopefully I can share some interesting conversation at the very least!

Failing that, I dunno. I do a pretty good karaoke version of Elton John's "Are you ready for love", I could always song that?
