About Me

CURRENT MISSION

some serious long distance sailing

ABOUT ME

Ah geez me...what can I say...well its pretty simple really....I love the outdoors and have some great walks outside my back door. I enjoy mountain biking and sailing - although I am pretty slow on the mountain bike these days. I love history and that feeling of 'I am standing here and who stood here before and what did they do'...feeling...it does not all have to be mystical etc just the everyday stuff. I like people and to listen and learn from others regardless of their age. I enjoy philosophy and just thinking about things. Some of it is deep and meaningful and some of it is not.

PHILOSOPHY

to enjoy life and try and understand it on a more spiritual and philosophical level. To laugh and have fun through my outdoor pursuits and embrace all the experiences that life has to offer good and sad and to grow from those experiences into a more caring person. Ok that might sound really heavy but it isn't really - its what I try to do every day - if I can be more tolerant and live like that, I am more content within myself.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I blame Mum and Dad!. Before back packing got popular, in the 60's and 70's my father use to stop and pick up hitchhikers and invite them to have a meal and stay. My poor mother with 5 children always seemed to make the kids squeeze up in the car and stretched the meals to go even further. I think it was something to do with the fact that he was a Scottish immigrant and the Scots are great at hospitality. Consequently the next generation has continued the trend. We have picked up cyclists caught out by our weather, hitch-hikers and all sorts over the years. I have had the same hospitality returned when I have visited their countries. My last trip was to Iran with 2 friends and the hospitality I received there was just amazing.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

sailing with orcas. We had a sailing trip across Cook Strait..on one trip we saw an Orca eating a seal for breakfast - yes it did really feel like the Wildlife Animal' channel was happening right there in front of us. On another trip 8 orca stayed with us for over 15 minutes - I could have touched them they were that close next to the boat.... just magic
