About Me

Greetings

My name is I Gede Yudha Bhismaya, but you can also call me Yuda or Iggy. I'm Indonesian living in the one of the most famous part of the country (Bali).

In my circle I am known for being a funny and open minded people. I guess that is true. For me nothing is more precious than making someone laugh. For me the true essence of travelling is located not only on the places you visited but also the people you met and if possible of course...the contribution you made to that place. Perhaps the latter is the reason why I keen on participating on volunteering project in places that I visited.

I'm currently not accepting surfers but I'm more than happy to meet with people, go out for drinks or suggest best "non-mainstream" places to be visited here in Bali. And of course travel together.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm actually quite new to Couchsurfing, a volunteering mate suggested me to join in because it is good system to meet new people and discover new places and it is good system indeed.

Couchsurfuing Experience

I have no couchsurfing experience with CS members before yet I have a couchsurfing experience with people outside of CS. I was doing field survey to determine programs for my volunteering project when I visited the house of the headmaster of an elementary school in that village. At first I simply wanted it to be a quick survey but it changed into long conversations and when I realized about the time, it was already dark outside. The headmaster kindly let me crash on his bed for a night.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:
I like all kinds of music, this can be seen from my MP3 playlist which contains music from different musical genres from Heavy metal, rock, blues, jazz and classical. But, I often play music that reflects on my mood at the time I listen to it.

Books:
I'm a huge fan of books, I have a large collection of books ranging from fiction to non-fiction. My favorite book is "The Red Badge of Courage" by Stephen Crane

Movies:
Mostly war or historical-themed movies such as "All Quiet in the Western Front" or "Tora tora tora" but I also like documentaries especially regarding history or conspiracy. And I also like late 80's to 90's TV series such as "Twin Peaks", "X-Files" and "Friends"...and I'm also a fan of "Family Guy" and many Fox TV series

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Back in February-March 2015 when I took this volunteering program in Pengotan Village (a rural area northeast of Bali). Me and my travelling friend went on hiking. But, we didn't really have a destination to go as its becoming a habit for us to just go on a hike without deciding where we want to go. After hours of walking south through bushes and farm fields, we encountered a cliff and it was a dead end. We wanted to turn back when suddenly the rain started to hail. So, we ran to this small hut in the middle of a farm where some farmers were taking a break. There, they kindly invited us in to take shelter and not only that they made us cup of coffee and light up the heater to keep us warm. Apparently they came from a village miles away and invited us to visit. And so we did on the next day and it was a gorgeous village. Got lost and soaked has taken me and my friend to a beautiful place.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm known for my fun yet PAINS'ful attitude which means Positive Attitude in Negative Situations. I Understand that not every people share this attitude and I've seen that it could be very easy for negative situation to overcome someone, blur their minds and prevent them to come up with solutions. Well, I could share a thing or two on how staying positive allows you to overcome problems even the difficult ones. I am also a drummer so if you want to learn about the basic of drumming I could teach you a trick or two.

I could also share story of my volunteering experience and how they forged me to be what I am right now.

And of course I could share to you about knowledge regarding my country. Everything you need or want to know.
