PROYECTO REFUGIO WALDEN

Estamos creando el REFUGIO WALDEN en Argentina: ¡Buscamos Voluntarios!

Este proyecto es el siguiente paso en nuestro camino como miembros de la comunidad de CouchSurfing. Queremos evolucionar de ser viajeros y anfitriones a creadores de un espacio de encuentro y colaboración permanente entre viajeros.

Buscamos personas que quieran sumarse a la creación de un espacio de ecoturismo, hospitalidad, vida simple en San Cosme (interior de la provincia de Corrientes). Es un emprendimiento sin fines de lucro.

Nos inspiramos en la obra "Walden" de Henry David Thoreau. Promovemos una vida simple, sostenible y desconectada de las pantallas para priorizar el contacto con la naturaleza y las personas.

¿Cómo puedes ayudar? Recién estamos empezando a rodar y buscamos voluntarios de diferentes campos:
Bioconstrucción y Restauración: Mejorar la casa y el terreno con enfoques sostenibles.
Autosuficiencia: Trabajar en la huerta, cuidar animales y elaborar pan o dulces caseros.
Espacios Comunes: Construir nuestra cocina exterior comunitaria, que incluye horno de barro y parrilla.
Naturaleza y Comunidad: Ayudar a incrementar el conocimiento de la biodiversidad local y colaborar en actividades sociales con la comunidad.

Nuestro Objetivo: Al sumarte ahora, nos ayudarás a desarrollar un modelo de turismo responsable.

Soy un cocinero argentino que vive en la isla de Menorca (España) desde hace más de 10 años, después de haber vivido en varios países y viajado por algún que otro lugar. Estuve muy involucrado en CouchSurfing cuando todo empezó en el año 2008 en Estados Unidos e Irlanda.

Tengo dos hijos menorquines, MATEU (9) y ENEKO (3). Aunque son niños todavía, quiero enseñarles con el ejemplo el valor de la hospitalidad y la fraternidad entre viajeros, plantar la semilla del deseo por descubrir el mundo por sí mismos, viajando de una forma diferente, con el tesoro del espíritu original de CouchSurfing, mirando con los ojos de los lugareños y viviendo a su manera.

Hace 5 años, conocí a LAURA (https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/laura-santamarta), una CSer que vino unos días a Menorca a hacer el Camí de Cavalls y nunca más se fue. Nos encontramos, nos entendimos desde el primer momento y nos enamoramos. Nos mudamos a una casa más grande y hace 3 años nació ENEKO, nuestro pequeño hijo CSer, quien disfruta de tener CSers en casa y le encanta viajar.

Desde muy pequeño me encanta viajar; primero con mis padres y hermanos, luego con amigos, bastantes veces con mi pareja, en familia con mi hijo también, y muchas otras veces solo o con gente que fui conociendo por el camino. Al principio, la gran aventura era dormir en la casa de un amigo, luego un fin de semana de camping en algún bosque o cerca de un río, y más adelante un verano en Brasil...

Con el pasar de los años, los destinos se hicieron cada vez más lejanos y las estadías más extensas. Pasé de viajar moviéndome mucho a vivir en las ciudades que visitaba. Hasta que me cansé, no de viajar, sino de no estar en casa; entonces me concentré en quedarme quieto, sentar cabeza y enfocarme en mi familia y profesión. Pasaron 10 años en los que dejé de relacionarme con aventureros como yo, donde la red de amigos CSers dejó de expandirse, y eso es algo que quiero recuperar ahora.

La mejor parte de esos viajes siempre fue la gente que conocía, a quienes, por culpa de mi curiosidad, exprimía a preguntas sobre lo que hacían, sus rutinas diarias, lo que comían...

REFUGIO WALDEN PROJECT

We are creating REFUGIO WALDEN in Argentina: We’re Looking for Volunteers!

This project is the next step in our journey as members of the CouchSurfing community. Our goal is to evolve from being travelers and hosts to becoming the creators of a permanent space for connection and collaboration among travelers.

We are looking for people who want to join us in building a space dedicated to ecotourism, hospitality, and simple living in San Cosme (located in the heart of the Corrientes province). This is a non-profit venture.

We are inspired by Henry David Thoreau’s Walden. We promote a simple, sustainable life—unplugging from screens to prioritize real connection with nature and people.

How can you help? We are just getting things off the ground and are looking for volunteers from various backgrounds:

Natural Building & Restoration: Improving the house and the land using sustainable methods.
Self-Sufficiency: Working in the vegetable garden, caring for animals, and making homemade bread or preserves.
Common Areas: Building our communal outdoor kitchen, which includes a traditional clay oven and a grill (parrilla).
Nature & Community: Helping to expand our knowledge of local biodiversity and collaborating on social activities with the local community.

Our Goal: By joining us now, you will help us develop a model for responsible tourism.

I'm an Argentinian chef who has been living in MENORCA (Balearic Islands, Spain) for over 10 years, after having lived in a handful of countries and traveling a bit. I am a person who was really into the CouchSurfing community when it started around 2008 in the US and Ireland.

I have two Menorcan sons, MATEU (10) and ENEKO (3). Though they are still young, we want to show them the value of hospitality and fraternity among travelers. We want to plant the seed of the desire to discover the world on their own someday, traveling in a different way, keeping the gem of the original CS spirit, seeing through the locals' eyes and living their way.

Five years ago, I met LAURA (https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/laura-santamarta), a CSer who came to the island for a few days to walk the Camí de Cavalls. She never went back. We found each other, understood each other at first sight, and fell in love. We moved into a bigger house, and 3 years ago ENEKO was born—our little CSer son, who enjoys it when we have surfers at home and when we travel abroad.

From an early age, I have been passionate about traveling. At the beginning, it was with my parents and brothers, then with friends, many times with my partner, and later with our sons. Many times I traveled on my own or with fellow travelers I met along the way. Everything started with the biggest adventure: a sleepover at a friend’s house, and later a weekend camping in the forest close to a river… As I grew up, the usual adventure was spending the summer in Brazil.

After many years of looking for the next adventure, my destinations became more remote and far away, involving longer journeys. I exchanged the usual “visit as many places as you can” for “try to live like them, eat their food, and become one of them.” That's why my travels became more like traveling for a living.

Confirmé que a muchas de las personas que conocí, las he vuelto a ver; muchos siguen siendo amigos con los que hablamos con mucha frecuencia, y bastantes otros tienen el título de "viejos grandes amigos", con quienes no nos vemos ni hablamos, pero que si nos reencontráramos, nos entenderíamos igual que antes. Desde el primer día, entendí que CS trata sobre hospitalidad y no es una forma de ahorrar dinero."

"When I discovered the world and the philosophy behind CS in 2007, I understood that it was possible to travel without traveling, and that the people I met were more important than the museums I visited or the pictures I took. Time has shown that I've actually seen many of those people again; many are still friends I talk to very often, and quite a few others hold the title of 'great old friends'—we might not see or talk to each other, but if we ever crossed paths again, we would connect just like before. What I Can Share with Hosts

Con mis anfitriones: aunque les hable de mis aventuras viajeras y mi pasión por las ciudades donde he vivido, ellos siempre estuvieron más interesados en mis habilidades culinarias. Improvisar una comida a último momento usando solo las sobras que haya en la nevera, siempre fue divertido.

Con nuestros huéspedes o CSers que conozco: qué hacer en Menorca, formas de moverse y llegar a cualquier lugar de la isla, y cómo hacer el Camí de Cavalls. Por cuestiones de tiempo, obligaciones y responsabilidades, no podemos compartir mucho tiempo con los CSers que nos visitan, sobre todo cuando más viajeros vienen en verano. Asumimos que lo saben: una casa CS no es un B&B, y en el caso de compartir alguna comida, serán los viajeros los cocineros y nosotros los que probaremos encantados sus recetas, acompañadas de historias, risas y carcajadas.

Los aventureros que hospedamos tienen que ser bastante independientes para moverse libremente por la isla, sabiendo que pueden entrar y salir de casa cuando quieran. En algún momento compartiremos una charla, un paseo o una comida. ¡Uno viene a Menorca a recorrerla y explorarla, no a dormir 12 horas y estar enganchado al móvil en casa!

With my hosts: Even if I try to share my travel adventures and my passion for the cities I've lived in, they have always been much more interested in my culinary skills! Improvising a last-minute meal using only whatever leftovers are in the fridge has always been fun.

With our guests or CSers I meet: I share what to do in Menorca, how to get around the island, and how to hike the Camí de Cavalls. Due to our daily routines and family responsibilities, we can't always spend a lot of time with our surfers, especially during the summer when the island gets busy. We assume you already know this: a CS home is not a B&B. If we do share a meal, the travelers will be the chefs this time, and we will happily be your taste testers while sharing stories and lots of laughter.

The adventurers we host need to be quite independent to explore the island on their own, knowing they can come and go as they please. At some point, we'll surely share a good chat, a walk, or a meal. Remember: you come to Menorca to travel and explore it, not to sleep 12 hours a day and stay glued to your phone at home!
