About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Saving the Earth and trying to be zen; trying to combine knowledge and positivity. No easy task!

ABOUT ME

Self-employed/freelance musician. 'Specializing' in 'World music'; I know this sounds like a contradiction and it is. Interested in every aspect of life. Jack of all trades. Super-curious and intellectually driven. Graduated in French Literature, but missed music too much and went back to it and got stuck! Mostly relaxed. Very open-minded. Vegetarian for 25 years and vegan for the last 20 years or so. I own a three apt. building that I renovate when I have time. Would love to have more free time to travel other than when I'm touring for music. Would love to live in the country, but still love Montreal.

PHILOSOPHY

We do not inherit the Earth from our parents and grandparents, we borrow it form our children and grandchildren.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've been hosting for several years now and had only good experiences and love it.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've been putting up people forever, but not necessarily through Couchsurfing.org. Being in the music field, there is no lack of acquaintances needing a place to stay while touring/passing through!

Interests

Music, 'green' architecture, hiking, philosophy, History, cross-country skiing, traveling, cooking, carpentry, musical instruments building, literature, yoga... I am fascinated by Hundertwasser and Gaudi's architecture.

Music, Movies, and Books

Not a cinema specialist, but love watching a great flick and laughing or crying because of a good story. Been watching a ton of old French flicks with Louis-de-Funès lately. Love Terry Gilliam's films. Emir Kusturica and André Forcier blow my mind with their poetry. I like Tony Gatlif for he can combine entertainment and education. Jeunet et Caro made two of the best French films I've ever seen. Tim Burton, Coen Brothers, Wes Anderson...
Very open minded in terms of music. Some of my favorites are: Frank Zappa, Prokofiev, Fela Kuti, Phish, Chopin, Sergent Garcia, Steely Dan, Shivkumar Sharma, Grateful Dead, Rabih-Abou-Khalil, Peter Gabriel, Radiohead, Debussy, Foo Fighters, Amadou et Mariam, Gnawa Diffusion, Meshuggah, The Band, Zeppelin, Marley, Snarky Puppy...
Although I studied French Literature, I mostly read non-fiction at this point. Some of my all-time favourite authors are: Montaigne, Pascal, Plato, Stefan Zweig, Mircea Eliade, Jung, Gandhi, Proust and... San Antonio!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Played a concert in front of 10 000 people in Kazimierz, Poland.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can talk for days about drumming/hand drumming; I know a bit about 'Green' and ecological architecture; I have a decent amount of experience in carpentry and woodworking. I would love to learn about Sustainable lifestyle, permaculture, biodynamic agriculture, meditation, linguistics...

What I Can Share with Hosts

Vegan cooking and lifestyle. Drumming.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, England, Estonia, France, Germany, Guatemala, India, Mexico, Morocco, Nepal, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Scotland, Spain, United States
