The Persian Empire is any of a series of imperial dynasties centered in Persia (now Iran). The first of these was established by Cyrus the Great in 550 BC, with the Persian conquest of Media, Lydia and Babylonia. Known as Nowruz or Norooz, the holiday means “New Day” and commemorates the Persian New Year. The holiday, which dates back 3,000 years, is rooted in Zoroastrianism – an ancient Iranian religion that influenced later religions including Christianity, Judaism and Islam.Iranians have Uncle Nowruz, who is the equivalent of Santa Claus and brings good luck to people on Nowruz. Traditionally a man called Haji Firuzwhose face is painted in black and dresses in red is the herald of Nowruz..
