About Me

This is very difficult. I am not your standard person who watches TV.

I'd spent 7 years of my youth trying to escape the Russia's regime. My only option was to get PhD in a technical science (math, engineering) so I could get a work visa in Canada or the USA. I succeeded, but I didn't have childhood as the result.

So I had to become best of the best in IT field in order to immigrate to the USA, which I did. Then I've worked in several companies in roles from Software Developer to Director of Technology to Software Engineer to Lead of Research and Development in a very prominent San Francisco startups and multiple Silicon Valley companies. I had a great career that I hated.

Then I became a business owner, started 3D graphics company, secured multiple hi-profile contracts with companies like Mitsubishi Electric and Miss Universe, where we created stage animations that been watched by 20 million people LIVE.

Then I remembered that I always wanted to be a photographer. I always was one, just an amateur, not paid. So I opened a portrait photo studio in a mall. Had a blast doing that. However, I did realize that while making great, fantastic pictures, I can't make any money, because I lack sales skills. And people skills. All these years being "a technical person" in corporate America resulted in me losing people skills. I spent too much time reading technical books, working weekends, making a career I hated, and forget to live life.

That's when I decided to learn sales skills. In the process I've become an insurance agent. I've been selling life and health insurance since then.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To learn and expand my perspective in order to grow as a human being.

I'd love to find people to share this world with.
At some point I realized that the wanderlust is incurable. However, the more you live different cultures, the farther you are from the people around you.
So to have a meaningful connection, you need to search somewhere else.

Music, Movies, and Books

Michael Jackson: "They don't really care about us"
Eminem: "Lose yourself", "Not afraid"
Movies: Avatar, Japanese doramas, "Long Vacation" in particular. (and many more)
Books: Catcher in the Rye.
A Course in Miracles (a version of Bible recorded mid-20th Century by a medium that claims that Jesus personally dictated it to her being a voice in her head)
Some "technical" books, which I'll not list as not to scare off too many people. One of them about contemporary probability theory. I really LOVE this book. It opens a new world of science.
