Sobre mí

CURRENT MISSION

See the world and not die trying

ABOUT ME

I do this crazy thing where I move to cities I've never been to and learn them through osmosis. It's amazing the knowledge you pick up from just being somewhere unfamiliar.

I tend to move a lot. Staying still isn't as much fun as getting out and seeing things and meeting people and other stuff that happens to be more fun than staying still. Talk a lot(I was a member of talkaholics anonymous but got kicked out when they couldn't get a word in edgewise. Not true but it could be), laugh a lot(occasionally annoying giggle so that you are warned in advance), will be quiet if asked to but it may be difficult.

I also recently changed my name in case you read my friendships and reviews and wonder who Brittan is. Hint that's me only this rose is going by another name.

PHILOSOPHY

Here's a few miscellaneous quotes I try to live by...

Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional -Anon

When all else fails, at least it'll make a good story. - Anon.

Everything will be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end. - Anon

If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke. - Brendan Francis

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you've imagined. - Anon

Dream like you'll live forever. Live like you'll die today. - James Dean

Dreams are illustrations from the book your soul is writing about you. - Marsha Norman

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

When I get a couch by hosting. Until then by surfing. By learning a new city as well as I know the back of my hand(which is about as well as you could learn a city in a few days). Most of all I participate by allowing the locales to learn these things about where they live too. Obviously my culture will finds it way of affecting misc. adventures but that's what makes it unique no?

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm a city girl even when surfing. Vancouver, Seattle, Montreal, NYC...they must be good experiences. I moved to the majority of these cities after surfing.

In December 2012 I attempted a road trip of epic proportion with stops in 19 states and 3 provinces over 30 days. I managed to make it to the first 3 before shit started to hit the fan with the loss of my wallet, including my passport, all ID and credit/debit cards. Getting temporary documents was an experience I wish on nobody. Having to cut my trip short I drove straight from LA towards Detroit but only got as far as Denver before I got in a pretty major car accident. I was the only vehicle involved and thanks to my seat belt was able to walk away from it very mildly injured. I'm glad I had the experience since I always meet such amazing people on couch surfing but I've also decided that when it comes to my own travel I will no longer be taking care of my own planning.

I am now living in Toronto and just finished studying Tourism. I learned a little about this city from school but will welcome the chance to see more so anyone wanting to meet for coffee should message me. I've got plenty of stories from the little bit of travel I managed to do and intend to have plenty more sans the near death experiences.

Intereses

Films(but don't ask me about directors. I'm too busy watching them). I do want to make my way into the world of film as a producer/creator (Working on a documentary right now about couchsurfing)

Having fun(who isn't interested in that?)

Travel. My list is slowly expanding but I'm heading into a career with airlines so I expect that to increase exponentially.

Creative anything. If it's aesthetically pleasing to the eye I will enjoy it and secretly ponder how to mimic it.

Kids-they are creative gods. I sometimes don't believe the stuff these guys come up with. Brilliant and they haven't even hit the 5 year mark.

Música, películas y libros

Movies: A terribly long list I can only pretend to think about. Usually those deeper meaning independent type movies which spend more time on visually stimulating settings, well written scripts, and brilliant acting than seeking financing to aid in special effects, big name actors, or publicity. They always seem to impress me and I secretly don't want them to succeed for fear that their next move won't demand an encore.

Music: Whatever is in earshot. I try not to pay attention to titles or artists. That way I treat everyone equally and am more excited by the randomness that music has to offer.

Books: I tend to judge books by their cover and surprisingly find good choices that way. Coincidentally most of the books I read have been made into movies (I rarely know this before reading the book and discover it later. Chances are if it was made into a movie I like the book. Unless it's on the New York Times Bestsellers list. Those are usually crud and don't deserve a second glance.

Algo increíble que he hecho

um...existed. I think that's pretty cool. I took a ride in a helicopter once. That was ridiculously frightening. It's like a roller coaster only without the track, so when it falls you're most likely going to die. And while grabbing the ceiling may be comforting it doesn't save you. Amazing how it works but terrifying. Recommending to anyone wanting to freak themselves out for an afternoon.

updated: I went for another ride in the helicopter only this one was better. I spent the day at the beach in mellow state of mind with flip-flops and surfers and random guy playing music bohemian style while I read a really good book. Then I got a phone call to be at the helicopter in like 20 minutes and we ended up flying to Lake Lovely Water which is on top of a mountain(didn't know this at the time) and is also surrounded by snow. mid-July in flip-flops standing in snow. It was amazing.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

um...how to be awesome. Or how not to be if you happen to be under the impression that I'm not. In which case I'll also teach you what awesome is.

I can't actually label lessons I may share. It'll probably just be random facts you didn't know which coincidentally popped up in conversation. I happen to have a lot of those hanging around.
