About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Learning the alphabet, in Hungarian.

ABOUT ME

I'm a musician with a day job. I live in Budapest, where I arrived 4 years ago as a crazy, starving vagabond with delusions of grandeur. Now I'm a responsible private entrepreneur with a wife, but at least my beard has improved. I'm an English teacher, but I'm really a musician, and I play all different kinds of percussion in various bands around Hungary, and sometimes in other countries, too.

PHILOSOPHY

I like to learn simply for my own edification about things that interest me. There doesn't have to be a purpose beyond that.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I learned a whole 30 minute long African folk tale in Hungarian, and told it to a whole bunch of kids while playing a xylophone, and got paid.

I performed with Maracatu Leao Coroado in the Recife/Olinda Carnaval 2010.

I recorded a CD in Accra, Ghana, playing Brazilian percussion with a group the played otherwise traditional Dagara music from Northern Ghana. That was my first professional recording experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have studied, performed, and taught all types of music/percussion--from classical/orchestral music, to jazz, rock, and traditional African and Brazilian music. Recently, I have also been working as an English teacher. I didn´t think I´d enjoy it as much as I have.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Cabo Verde, Ghana, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Senegal, Vatican City State

Countries I’ve Lived In

Brazil, United States
