About Me
ABOUT ME
I'm an easy going and friendly individual. I love travelling and meeting new people, getting involved and discovering new things.
I had been working as a mechanical engineer in Limerick, Ireland when I decided I didn't want to sit at a desk for the rest of my life, I wanted to do something more practical and helpful. I decided to study biomedical engineering to hopefully use my engineering skills and knowledge in a medical environment, I would love to work closer with people too. I moved to Germany to study my masters in Biomedical engineering, and now I'm still in Germany, designing medical devices for traumatology and orthopaedics.
I'm into keeping fit, especially if it involves doing something fun. I love climbing, hiking, skiing, nearly all watersports especially sailing and wakeboarding, and I've also tried kitesurfing and surfing! Cycling is the best way to get around so I always need to have a bike where I live, I have accumulated a few really old bikes in Ireland and now one in Germany, they're not worth anything, but I've grown attached to them and can't bring myself to get rid of them yet!
I love to cook. And I love to bake too, especially vegan baking, and try new recipes, or just make it up as I go along. I especially love to cook with other people and to eat together. Food brings people together :)
PHILOSOPHY
Have a good attitude towards everything :D
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
So far I've met the loveliest people on Couchsurfing, it's such a great community and the best way to travel to a new place.
I haven't hosted that much yet, but I'm looking forward to hosting some more.
Interests
I grew up hiking with my family in the Dublin and Wicklow mountains, and I learnt to ski at a young age. But I think I developed a true love for being in the mountains when I moved to the west of Ireland. It's so incredibly beautiful there. I also started climbing and mountaineering around the same time. And although I currently live in one of the flattest places on earth, I still love being in the mountains and use every opportunity I can to spend time hiking, climbing, skiing, or just being among them. I would really like to do some ski mountaineering someday.
I also grew up sailing dinghys, and I really enjoy being on the water, or in the water swimming :)
Travelling, seeing new places, meeting new people and trying new things always makes me feel fulfilled. And I love going to music concerts, festivals and gigs. I speak Irish and I'm learning German at the moment, once I have German I might learn Spanish.

Music, Movies, and Books
Books: I love reading, and I pretty much read anything that sounds interesting to me. A mix between non fiction and fiction.
Movies: I'm not big into movies but I do enjoy sitting down and watching a thriller or documentary or a series, nothing scary though! I have a huge list of movies I have been meaning to watch or I have been recommended, but I never seem to find time. Winter is coming though ;P
Music: Hozier, Radiohead, Chillies, Damien rice, Kiasmos, Lisa Hannigan, The frames, Supertramp, Metronomy, Buena Vista Social Club, Glass animals, Alt-J, Air, Bon Iver, Counting crows, Muse The Dandy Warhol, Eels, Massive attack...just to name some and in no particular order.
I listen to anything that makes me smile or feel, or that has some thought-invoking lyrics. I can be found listening to anything from rock, electronica, hip hop, the occasional bit of rap to classical, and of course latin music is the best to dance to, I love it!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I'm quite proud of hiking to the summit of Mont Blanc a few years back.... however, getting stuck on a different mountain for 3 (very long) days without food and water a short while before doing Mont Blanc was probably more amazing. Not really an experience I want to recreate though!
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can try teach any of my hobbies with anyone that is interested. :) I'm a qualified sailing and skiing instructor too.
I'll definitely cook up a nice dinner, or bake some yummy treats!
I can share my experiences, photos of places I've been too. And hopefully have a good chat about life :D
If, on the off chance, you would like to learn some Irish I can teach that too.
