About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To take Bohemia with me, wherever I may go. After three beautiful years of academic philosophy, spiced rum and a motley band of incredible brothers, it's time for new adventures.

ABOUT ME

When I was 6 I tried to learn the Yellow Pages because it was the biggest book in my house. I like a challenge. Corollary thought: it's important to learn from one's mistakes.

These days I'm in a transitional period of life, between intense studying with awesome social vibes in a small and cosy academic community, and moving onto a new bohemias, in other parts of the world.

I'm heading to Rio in mid September and would love to share words, time, drinks or a house with new people out there.

I'm also very laid back with my passions. You shouldn't force them on others; it all just happens organically.

PHILOSOPHY

I think I'll have a go at this box...

I try to live inspired in the following ways:
1. Walt Whitman, in 'Blades of Grass', writes "every atom belonging to me, as good belongs to you." and that is beautiful way to see the world and the persons in it.

2. Seneca writes on the shortness of life that the notion depends solely on one's attitude toward time. This attitude is under our control, and accordingly we ought not to waste any of it regretting, but celebrating every moment and loving every minute well spent. And what dictates whether time is well spent? Your attitude towards it, of course. Again, a choice we make ourselves.

3. Wittgenstein, in his early writing, maintained that the world of the happy man is different to that of the unhappy man. This abstruse comment can be made sense of with reference to the above - the attitude we have towards the world creates that world. So in somewhat Buddhist style, the happy man arranges his attitude in accordance with, rather than antagonistically to, the totality of facts.

Run if you want the world to be fast, smile if you want it to be joyous - what is a space and a time but a place and a moment to enjoy?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm real new to this, but when I am in Manchester, Cambridge or London I will be very happy to show people around and host. I'm generally excited to meet 'surfers, and can't wait to host people properly when I have a place in London from Summer 2012.

Interests

First and foremost, philosophy. My second love is art, namely sculpture, creating structures (iron, wood..., local street art, as well as literature and poetry. I am always fascinated by communal projects, and generally exploring new places.

Currently I'm interested in sustainable tourism and the preservation of cultural diversity in the face of increasing tourism and globalization. Travel and exploration are so important and wonderful, but tourism can be so damaging if done wrongly. Cultural sensitivity and education are very important to me.

I also love trying beers all over the world. England has many good ales, but BERLIN has the BEST Weißbier!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Wandered alone and naive into the Brazilian Amazon and realised that one doesn't need to be prepared for life, one just needs to live it! Moment by moment. Right now!

Teach, Learn, Share

Teaching? I am something of a pro at opening a beer bottle with a lighter, so let me know if you have a penchant for pointless little tricks...

Countries I’ve Visited

France

Countries I’ve Lived In
