About Me

I am a jr high and high school music teacher, have a wonderful 6 year old daughter. I have done a lot of wandering and traveling, and hope to continue whenever I have an opportunity.

I love artistic and creative things such as music-making and listening, photography, artsy films, coffee snobbery, nature, introspection, healthy and unhealthy diets, improvisational cooking. I am half-time vegetarian, occasionally vegan, but we absolutely love a good burger or steak.

Travels have taken me in Europe, Central America, South East Asia, Northwestern Africa, and Asia Minor. Much of my traversals were done by hitchhiking.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hitchhiking stories: Hitchhiked across the USA, from Portland to D.C., in five days flat, and from Southern California to Alaska. Got bored with the "slow boat" when traveling from Thailand to Laos. After the overnight stop, I didn't get back on the boat, and I hitchhiked to the destination. Got picked up hitchhiking from Norway to Sweden, and was abducted and forced to play the blues on my ukulele for some Lithuanian ex-cons. For real. I have clocked more than 50,000 miles of hitchhiking (that's around the Earth, twice!!).

Music stories: Played trombone with a professional opera in Utah for three seasons. Months of late-night jams with a ton of musicians in Barcelona, Spain, learning the art of improvisation. Marched in drum and bugle corps (DCI). Performed in a music festival in the middle of the Alaska Wilderness. Met the "world's best trombone player," and utterly despised him.

I HAVE SPAWNED A CHILD.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to play an instrument. Everyone has musical talent, there's rhythm and music in our bodies and souls, and I might forcibly teach you some ukulele chords so we can jam together. Earth, Life, everything is made of energetic wave-like rhythmic patterns and beautiful resonances; if you say you have no rhythm or musicality, you're lying to yourself.

I am addicted to coffee, and love its history, culture, and deliciousness. We can talk java.
