About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Trying to understand why people think differently than me
ABOUT ME
Tall, lanky, and awkward, I can stand out in a crowd and not make much noise at the same time. I'm just starting to realize how much I need to see in the world. Emphasis on the need. I spent a large part of my life playing ultimate (frisbee), but not I cycle and swim more. I'm a scientist by training, but I love thinking deeply and understanding other's perspectives on anything.
PHILOSOPHY
If there's anything I've learned in the second decade of my life, it's that I should really try to comprehend why people's opinions are different than mine. I said it earlier but it deserves repeating.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
My house in Ithaca - hopefully someone can put it to good use.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Three nights in Dominica with JR. I've also hosted two sets of people on my couch back in Ithaca.
Interests
Heights! Listening to someone explain how they see things in a completely different way, and being rendered speechless.
- cycling
- swimming
- biology
- engineering
- science
Music, Movies, and Books
Reggae, rock, hip-hop, SKA! I love beats. Favorite books- Perks of Being a Wallflower, Portnoy's Complaint, anything by David Sedaris, the list goes on.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Gone gorge jumping in the one of the most beautiful spots in the States - Ithaca, NY.
Seen the boiling lake in Dominica, almost died on Morne Diablotin. Hiked Waimea on Kauai. I've road-tripped 18 hours from NY to Georgia in one shot, three times.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm a student in biomedical engineering, but I hate the memorization that comes with learning biology so I've taken a lot of random science classes like chaos theory and astrophysics. One of the coolest things I learned about in astrophys was the evidence supporting the existence of dark matter in the universe - some strange form of matter which does not interact with light but contributes to the total mass of galaxies. Send me a line and I'll be happy to tell you what I know, which isn't that much (good chance you know more than me). One thing I hope to learn from other people, especially in these sorts of isolated places I want to visit, is how to look at the stars. I never get to see that many where I'm from, and it's an exciting prospect to be able to see thousands of stars out at night.
