One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Once I was basking in the sun on a wakeboarding boat at the local Paiute Indian Reservation in the middle of a deep, deep lake called Pyramid in Nevada. It was lunch time so I asked my buddy for his knife. We needed an avocado to make some delicious sandwiches. I split the fruit open and attempted to remove the seed by driving the knife into it. With the avocado seed impaled on the knife I gaily flicked the seed overboard towards the water. Unfortunately, I released the knife as well as the seed and both splashed into the water.
It was a steel folding knife which had never learned to swim. As I realized what had happened, I looked across the boat to my friend John. He had a heart-wrenching look of submission on his face. To him, the knife was gone forever. He loved that knife. And I loved him. So I leapt off the boat in a hurried dive and swam down after the sinking thing.
I could see the knife was plummeting and spinning through the murky Paiute Water like a maple tree leaf falls through the air. I reached out to grab it but the turbulence of my hand pushing the water caused the knife to be pushed further away from me.
I paddled deeper and deeper into that haunted lake and again the knife eluded me on account of my overzealous grasps. I felt my ear drums squeeze from the compression of deep water. I decided to take my final reach in this unholy attempt.
I paddled within range of the knife. Slowly and carefully I reached out and clutched the piece of steel before it could sink any deeper.
I relaxed as I floated to the surface with my eyes closed. My head finally gently hit the bottom of the boat and I knew I would survive. I paddled around and came up victorious to the cheers of the crowd. The impossible had been accomplished. It was a foolish mission, impromptu and barbaric, but successful.
We all celebrated with a beer. My good friends Matty K, Johnny B, Roxie, My baby sisters Les and Laur laur, my grinning father and my flabbergasted mother. A month later I learned that my friend had lost the sacred knife which had experiences the heroic rescue.
Teach, Learn, Share
El contentamiento de vivir es lo primero de todo.
I've been working all my life. I'm handy with tools & machines. My Dad and I used built houses so I pretty much can do anything involved in housing.
At University I learned to speak Spanish. I learned a lot about business, international relations and economics. It was a hoot. I picked a lot of fruit and worked a cattle station in Australia.
Come from a place of Abundance.
