About Me

CURRENT MISSION

World Domination.

ABOUT ME

My name is Benjamin Tong and I'm currently living in Singapore. I was born here and lived here until I was seven, then my life got slightly more than unusual. My parents' lives as missionaries took us onto a boat called the Logos 2, a ship that sailed around the world selling books and providing relief to third world countries. No, my life is not a fairytale. You can find out more about the Ship ministry at www.om.org. Wow, I can't believe I just advertised that huge part of my life like that.

Anyway, after that stint, we returned to Singapore for a couple months and then moved to South Carolina in the USA, where I've lived for the past five years. I just graduated and moved back here to Singapore to do my National Service.

Overall, I've been to a lot of countries and met a lot of people and I love it. My favorite part of the ship was meeting soooo many different kinds of people from all over the world. I love the different cultures and amazing places and the people people people. I might be a people person, I'm not sure. Right now, Singapore is the next adventure and I look forward to the great people I'm going to meet. Through CourchSurfing! I hope.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I can't travel overseas much right now because of my upcoming National Service, but I still want to meet people in Singapore, whether local or international. We can get coffee or rob a bank or something.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have not CouchSurfed before but I'm used to friends passing through town and staying at my house/apartment. I'm happy to host, but I'm great with just meeting people and making friends too.

Interests

I really like music, playing guitar, piano or singing in the shower. I like doing athletic stuff, like running or spelunking. I'm not entirely sure what spelunking is, but I want to try it. I like going to movies, hanging out at Starbucks, or long walks on the beach. Oh, I just looked up what spelunking is, it's cave exploring. Well that sounds awesome, let's do it. One of the things I loved about traveling around a lot was the chance to hear the different stories from all kinds of different people. I think it's fun to just listen to the crazy or not-crazy things people have done in life, or plan to do. Wow, that spelunking is seriously all over my mind right now. Are there any caves in Singapore?

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies
I'm not particularly partial to any genre, but I'm not a big fan of horror. Yes, it is because I will get scared.

Music
Music is like dipping a piece of high class silk in Venetian wine, setting it on fire and throwing it out your office window. Well wait, maybe not, but that sounded awesome. I like mostly soft acoustic songs or piano tracks, but that doesn't really explain the dance songs I have on my iPod. I guess I'm not too limited to any specific kind, but I favor songs that I can actually play myself. Like soft acoustic songs or piano tracks.

Books
I haven't spent as much time reading as I've wanted to, but I mostly like simple fiction or thoughtful works and essays. CS Lewis is pretty good for both sides of that coin.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've been to over 50 countries before becoming a legal adult. My next achievement is to successfully lick my elbow.

Teach, Learn, Share

I wouldn't consider myself smart or wise enough to impart wisdom in a teaching manner but hey, if you learn something from me, score! One of the things I've learned in life is that you can't stop learning so I try to keep an open mind. So many people I've met from all over the world have been the greatest teachers not so much in what they say or preach, but just in the way they live.
