About Me

CURRENT MISSION

1st and foremost graduate, then see the world make new friends and new experiences.

ABOUT ME

I'm never very good at these things but here goes: I love to travel! My saint of a mother made sure that we (my brother and I) saw and experienced as much of the world as she could afford. By the time I left school I had visited maybe 10 or 11 different countries all over the world from India to the USA. Being a single parent and not well off it was always on the cheep but I feel it was all the better for it. I really can't thank her enough for giving me the love of travel and all the amazing opportunities.

I graduated high school at 17 then work a few months to save up money for a trip to Japan where I stayed for 6 months. I spent most of the time WWOOFing, (worldwide opportunities in organic farming. It was really one of the most formative experiences of my life and the reason I'm doing what I'm doing now: studying Religious Studies. I'm fascinated by people and love meeting new people and making new friends, every interaction shapes us and everyone I meet makes me a different and better person as I hope I do to. But people are in turn shaped by there culture and whether your religious or not (I personally am not) by the religions of that culture.

The better you understand a culture and its religions the better you understand its people and the more profound and positive the effects of your interaction with them, or at least that's my theory.

As such I want to meet and learn from as many people from all over the world as I can to become a better person and have a positive impact in the world.

My long term goal is to join the foreign service and become a diplomat so I can travel the world meeting amazing people and get PAID for it. What more could I ask for?

PHILOSOPHY

the world is big and time is short so make the most of it and try to do good as you go.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I heard about couch surfing through friends who surf and host. I joined prior to my US road trip and had some great experiences thanks to it.

I have returned the favour to one of my US hosts, Jeff Manzer when he visited Scotland but have been unfortunately not in a position to host since due to school then sharing a small studio apartment with my Fiancée.

Next year I hope we will have a bigger apartment and be able to host again.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I surfed with at a few locations across the US in the summer of 2011 and met some great people as a result.

Returned the favour to Jeff Manzer when he visited Scotland that Autumn.

Since then I've not been set up to host and been to busy finding my own way around Montreal to show anyone else.

Hope to have a better set up for the end of 2013 and going into 2014.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: 300 (HAU! HAU! HAU!), Frat-pack stuff i.e. Anchor Man etc, Monty Python, LOTR, Starwars (the original three, and yes I'm a geek), The Wicker Man (the original), Fight Club, Fear and Loathing in Las Vagas, Studio Ghibli (I already said I was a geek), Akira, Ghost in a Shell, Sideways, Alphaville, Withnail and I and many many more.

Music: as I said before I'm pretty ignorant and can't play anything but I'm not very fussy about what I listen to. Love a bit of Springsteen, The Eagles or Dylan, but I listen to Classical a lot too (don't like Baroque though, find it a bit twee), can sing along to chart stuff, will dance like an idiot to Dubstep, techno, electro. Some Jazz I love some I don't, don't know enough to say more than that though.

Books: LOTR, Harry Potter, Philip Pullman's Dark Material Trilogy, The Outsider and The Exile in the Kingdom by Albert Camus, Catch 22, The Power of Now by Echart Tolle, The Fountain Head, "War and Peace, Life of Pi and many more.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Falling in love haha! Ok apart from that? Spent 6 months in Japan when I was 17. I will never forget the experiences I had there or the Amazing people I met.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share with you: my love and knowledge of wine - I know more than most but less than many. Any and all my life lessons and learning that so takes your interest. What little I have learned about the religions of the world (the more I learn the more I realise I don't know). I'm sure I have a lot to offer but I'm just not sure what as yet. It'll probably all come out when you meet me.

What I'd love to learn: all about you, your country, your life, you loves, your culture, your beliefs, your philosophy, your history and your stories. I still entertain some hope of learning an instrument but I think that's something I might have to undertake on my own first at least.

Countries I’ve Visited

Bahrain, Denmark, Egypt, Greece, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Sri Lanka, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
