About Me

I grew up in rural Indiana between a small town and my family farm outside of town. We've always had cows out there and still do. For a while we had horses, but not anymore. I think because I spent so much time time outside as a kid it's caused me to really hate being cooped up inside all day. I enjoy being outside and spending time in nature and building things and exploring.

I moved to Indianapolis for college and Chicago for grad school, but decided to stay after I graduated. I've been here for about three years now and while I didn't like living here at first I really love this city now. There's always something new to do or someone new to meet. I work in politics and government and that has really allowed me to get out and meet people and see places that are off the beaten track.

In between all of that I spent some time living in Oman and Jordan both studying arabic (my MA is in Middle Eastern Studies) and conducting research on the use of public space for social interactions. That work allowed me to spend a lot of time in rural areas of the Middle East talking to people and simply living life. I spent some time doing non-profit work with Syrian refugees, as well. My adventures have taken me all over that part of the world (and other parts, too) and now that I'm more or less stationed in Chicago I want to share this city!

Music, Movies, and Books

I love books and read a lot, but it's hard to pick one favorite. Right now, though, I'd have to say it's Steinbeck's Travels With Charley in Search of America.
