Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Couchsurfing is a great way of getting to know people from different parts of the world. I participate through surfing and meeting for a coffee or a drink and whenever I can, I love to host!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Ok, this list is long ... Maybe I start at the beginning: I started with Couchsurfing when I was working for American Field Service in Portland, OR. A former colleague of mine introduced me to this website. Afterwards, a friend and I "couchsurfed" the East coast of the US and had some many awesome and unforgettable experiences. Afterwards, I hosted in Germany and I met many wonderful people through Couchsurfing while I was living and working in Mexico. I participated in various couchsurfing events and I would consider myself pretty active in this community, because couchsurfing is just phenomenal :)

Interests

Being a traveler rather than a tourist, taking photos, good music, meeting with friends and having a good time together. Basically just enjoying life and people ... more dis and dont-likes above :)

Music, Movies, and Books

I especially love electro and all kinds of "alternative" music. My all time favorite bands are Depeche Mode, De/Vision (Berlin, Germany), Mesh (Bristol, UK), VNV Nation (UK), Clueso (Germany), The Decemberists (Portland, OR), Paul Kalkbrenner (Berlin, Germany), Camila (Mexico), Mana (Mexico) and many many more.

I particularly like independent movie productions from all over the world. Especially Mexican productions. My favorite Mexican movie: "El Estudiante", an independent production from Guanajato. In general, I dont like the Hollywood Productions and I prefer movies with a "meaning". Some of my favorite movies are: Amores perros, Water, The Life of the Others, Bella, All movies from Pedro Almodovar, Como agua para chocolate, Ziemlich beste Freunde, Keinohrhasen, Zweiohrkücken and many many more.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Sooooo many different things ... and even if I try I will probably forget many. The most amazing thing I have done and that changed my life was my stay in Portland, Oregon, where I met my soul mate (I didn't even believe in something like that before). She fundamtentally changed my life and we are still connected. The second most important thing that changed my life: couchsurfing. Couchsurfing offered me the opportunity to get to know so many interesting people, make new experiences, get new insights and just have so much fun. Thirdly, Mexico also needs to be mentioned on this list. I spent days in San Cristobal, sitting with artists on the street and got an insight in their life. Wherever I go, I always try to live the "real life" and be close to the locals and the culture.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach German, English, Spanish and some of my just recently acquired cooking knowledge as well as a different perspective (especially in photography).
I want to learn as much as I can and I will share whatever I have.
