Overview
About Me
Hi! I’m Benjamin, a research scientist and curious traveler with a passion for exploring new places and fresh ideas. I’m deeply interested in cognitive neuroscience, psychology, machine learning, complexity theory, and theoretical physics. These areas keep me constantly learning and finding connections between them, and I’m always up for a great conversation about cutting-edge concepts. I currently conduct research at the Active Inference Institute and am working toward my doctorate next year. Over the next three months, I’ll be preparing for several presentations in the U.S. and the U.K.
In addition to my own research, I’m involved in research cohorts for Ontology, Rights Relationality, and the Gen 24 Research Team, and I contribute to the development of college textbooks for Thomas Parr. My journey so far has been a mix of theory, practical application, and collaboration, and I love sharing insights with others who are equally passionate about learning. When I’m not immersed in science and tech, you can find me on the road, enjoying the adventure and fresh perspectives that come with discovering new places.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I’m currently traveling for the next month or so, gearing up for some exciting speaking engagements both in the U.S. and abroad. I’ll be presenting my latest research in active inference, along with my discoveries in cognitive computing. Active inference is an amazing, complex field that dives into how existence and cognition function in biological systems, while cognitive computing mirrors these systems in computational frameworks. These advances hold incredible potential, especially for medical treatments across a range of conditions. It’s a busy and thrilling time in my career as a scientist, with new breakthroughs always on the horizon. Traveling keeps me energized and inspired, giving me fresh perspectives as I meet new people and explore different places. It’s a great way to stay grounded and motivated, especially since my work can sometimes feel isolating.

Music, Movies, and Books
When it comes to books, I’m pretty immersed in academic life—I not only read college college textbooks, I make them. I have focused primarily on research across various fields. My reading list is heavily science leaning. I value deep dives into complex topics and I’m always open to a good conversation about new ideas and knowledge. I love music and connecting with people who have different interests and learning about their favorite things!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I’ve been fortunate to develop the first unified cognitive computing system, pioneering new mathematical frameworks to replicate cognitive processes in computational environments. Along the way, I’ve expanded ontologies across various scientific fields and gained recognition from scholars in multiple disciplines. Additionally, my contributions at the Active Inference Institute earned me the opportunity to conduct research under the mentorship of Dr. Daniel Friedman. It’s been an enriching journey, and I’m eager for what lies ahead!

What I Can Share with Hosts
I love to share my knowledge and experiences and gain fresh insights from others, especially when it comes to science, technology, and the exciting projects I’m working on. Whether you’re interested in neuroscience, machine learning, or just curious about innovative technologies, I’m always happy to dive into meaningful conversations. I’m also a competent craftsman and can lend a hand with any small projects or tasks. Plus, I enjoy being a good listener, so if you'd like to have someone to share stories or ideas with, I’m here for that too. I find that traveling is all about exchanging ideas and experiences, and I’d love to contribute in any way I can.
