I am on Couchsurfing, because one could always find a very cheap hostel, but no one will ever find the true soul of the place without being in touch with the locals. Also I am usually on a very tight budget trips, which makes it hard to spend a lot of time in one place and if I get a chance to walk around with someone who is familiar with the place, it will make my trip easier and faster, because they know the directions, the language and etc..
