In 2001, I traveled the country and hitchhiked across, largely visiting intentional communities. In 2011, I challenged myself to live for a year without the use of money. In the last 4 years I have motorcycled to all of the 48 contiguous states.

I usually have a guitar strapped to the motorcycle, and I'm ready to play music wherever people may want to hear it. I also do custom "pay-what-you-want" poetry on my 1959 typewriter, which fits perfectly into my saddlebag.

Whether you'd like to host me along the way or know of a place I can perform (including living rooms), I'd love to connect with you and hear your stories.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

When I'm in Sarasota, I host when I can, when I travel, I make a good guest and try to leave any place I visit better than when I arrived.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I took a year and a half to travel the country about twenty years ago. I wrote a book about the experience called "The Rucksack Letters." I don't think CouchSurfing.org was in existence back then, but I met a lot of incredibly kind people along the way, and I'm glad to see them coming together in one place.

Since then , I've stayed with many different people and had amazing experiences with wonderful tour guides. I've also hosted a few and met some great folks.

I'm a Florida boy with an acoustic guitar so everything comes out a little country, but I've been told my stuff is more in the genre of Americana. However, I like all sorts of music.

I went to film school so I'm a bit of a movie junkie.

My favorite fictional authors are Tom Robbins, Christopher Moore, and Carl Hiassen. For non-fiction, I've enjoyed Yuval Noah Harari, Charles Eisenstein, and Brene Brown... among others.

I started this idea of traveling a couple of years ago to share my show, "Steve McAlphabet Explains ABC Squared Economics" (which is also a book). The main idea is that just as nature has her elements of Water, Air, Earth, and Fire, and humans are comprised of Heart, Mind, Body, and Spirit, so do we participate in society through our Artistry, Business, Citizenry, and Community. ABC Squared Economics is how we realize our energy and more consciously channel the flow.
