ABOUT ME
I'm a student of Political Science, with a minor in Cultural Antropology and I also study Latin American Languages and Cultures. I'm therefore interested in politics, social behaviour and cultures. I try to combine this with my love for partying. Dancing the night away, drinking Belgian beers (Belzebuth's my favorite) and listening to good music. I also enjoy cooking and am always trying out new recipes on my friends. After finishing highschool I've tried to see as much of the world as possible. The great thing about couchsurfing is that you can meet interesting people in interesting places. I always find that a country or city gets more interesting when you've got someone who can tell you all about it and who can show you all the good places.
PHILOSOPHY
My housemate Joke and I are currently on a mission to celebrate New Year's eve in a different country every year. That's about as good as a personal philosophy as I can give you...
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have been surfing and hosting for about half a year now so I'm still learning about the whole process. Hosting my first guests made me realize that I do not really know much about my own city so I've started reading up on facts about Leiden and I started searching for special things to do around here. I think this makes hosting more interesting both for my guests and for myself. Although I also still feel that an important part of couchsurfing is just getting to see how people live their everyday life.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
My first couchsurfing experience was with my friend Joke in Sweden. We stayed for a week at the house of two students in Gothenburg. They had another couchsurfer staying over for just one night. Joke and I cooked dinner for the five of us and we spent the entire evening around the kitchen table, talking and laughing like we had known each other for years. I thought that was quite amazing.

Music, Movies, and Books
My taste in movies is really broad. My friends and I are on a mission to see every bad action movie that we can find and Vin Diesel is my hero. But I also like indie movies or movies that are a bit more political. Depends on my mood really. The movies I saw this week are: Das leben der anderen, Afghan knights and Black sheep. That sums it up, I suppose.
My taste in music changes about every three months. Speaking generally, I like rock, metal, indie, punk and drum & bass. Some of my favorite bands are Nine Inch Nails, Faith no More, Sufjan Stevens, Garbage, Elliott Smith, a Dutch hiphopper called Brace (or is it D-Braced now?), Iron and Wine, In Flames. Currently I'm into Argentinian Tango music.
I like literature, but I have to read so much Latin American literature for my studies that I haven't really got time for anything else. I really enjoyed the books of George Orwell, Jane Austen, Ohran Pamuk.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
This is difficult, I have a lot of great travelling adventures. One of the best was probably sitting in a hot tub in Costa Rica with a cold beer in my hand at night watching an exploding vulcano in the distance.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm very fond of cocktails. I'll bring along my shaker so give me some ice and odd liquors and I'll mix you up a mean cocktail :)
