About Me

I'm concerned about improving society or contributing to humanity substantially during my stay on the earth. The "how" actually brings a debate we should discuss ;)

I'm also interested in alternative lifestyles, like sustainable living and green communities, and even if I'm not vegan, I make an effort to live more sustainably by shopping local (staying away from any food packaging) and staying away from the unjustified slaughter of animal industry. Other initiatives include green commuting, minimizing energy consumption and reliance on environmentally unfriendly sources, and minimalist living. I firmly believe that as individuals we can make a huge impact with some small decisions when we learn how to manage emotions in the pursuit of living our ideals.

I'm a former professional musician (keyboardist) performing live in popular celebrations, with little experience as a sound technician in spectacles and home studio production. I also like to experiment, like DJ sets combining rave music with metal and manga flavours, check out my SoundCloud profile.
At this moment I find myself trying to rediscover music composition and recover the joy of connecting to music, and the fulfillment of self-expression in multiple arts. If you are interested I put some links below with some of the projects I participated in.

Professionally I was a researcher in the interface between university and academy, in the field of sports nutrition and food supplements. With interest to direct my career towards new paths sharing the former philosophy. I have a growing interest in the fields of bioinformatics, bioengineering, neuroscience, and the benefits of food supplements to neurodegenerative diseases. But in recent years my research career has dramatically stopped (I should definitely tell you more if you plan to research).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

CouchSurfing is a window to meet new people when they are open to it. I really love connecting and sharing as part of it, even if due to the high demand of my former jobs I couldn't spend as much time as I desired with my guests. I decided to offer my place early on even if could offer little, and this eventually made a difference. I could contribute with my grain of sand and have already hosted around 75 people. In this respect, this is one way to make the world a better place, despite the limitations of contemporary living.

I believe in the power of communication and creativity to engineer solutions. I'm always kind to receive, help and host people: it's just part of my personality. So don't be shy in sharing your concerns, I may help you even if I couldn't host you!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Musician and DJ:
· Check my SoundCloud for some DJ and excerpts: https://soundcloud.com/turo_torre

Keyboardist career:
· Keyboardist in an innovative Game Metal band (Game Gods: www.gamegods.es, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsaONVrTgR4 , my character: Turo). We make every concert a game by interacting with the public through mini-games, by spliting them (so they must joing the good or the evil side) acting in a theater-like performance in which every musician is a game character with a story, belonging to the good or evil side...
· Managed a Symphonic orchestra project (more than 50 artist on stage) and played as keyboardist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AaW5E0inOUk
· Worked for 4 years in 2 professional bands (Emotion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFJMryO_M4k, and Arizona, both from Pulpí (Almeria)
· Former keyboardist of a progressive metal band (Shadows Theory: https://shadowstheory.bandcamp.com/album/kaleidosphere-ep I can give a CD as a present when you arrive at my place)

Sound technician and spectacle manager career:
· A terror spectacle based on Ugares (probably the true Dracula that existed) that was settled in an actual castle (Castillo de Alhama de Murcia) with more than 40 actors, 2 performances, and a thematised passage. Logistics and setting was difficult since from the bottom level to the fortess gate, there was an altitude equivalent to 20 floors.
· Managed a Disney children musical from scratch

Researcher and Product mannager carrer:
· We should talk about this more in detail ;)

Sport hobby:
· Runned one 52 and one 36 km trail race
· Cycled 60 km once or twice a day as commute to my work (for 2 years)
· Hiked for 14 the GR-11 route (in the Pirineos)
· I used to workout around 15 hours/week for some months, in a non-competitive fashion
· I like to try every new sport, so if you know one...

Nomad living:
· I lived in my small car (Toyota Yaris) for several weeks when I lived in Germany (2024). Since cars are accessible to many people (but housing is getting very expensive), this was an experiment to find a solution for many to start living minimalist and nomadic with little investment (if any), and have the freedom relocate and explore the world. It was challenging, and unexpectedly I found most of the struggles were not technical: rather around the psychological shift required, feeling integrated and connected to others, starting a new life, and finding comfort and wholeness within oneself.

Other experiences:
I traveled to China for 1 month (2024)
I had a great experience in Netherland when I went there to try to find the most sustainable way of eating. I tryied Veganism as the way, for many reasons previously found. For 3 months I went to each Vegan place I found through Netherland, with the longest distance done by bike of 80km in one day (8 hours 30 min). I found many great people on the way I'll never forget, some of them still best friends. However, I left veganism since I started feeling pretty weak.

Teach, Learn, Share

With each trip one make, one belongs more deeply to the earth.
With each person one meets, one exchanges a seed of essence from each other.
Every time you step outside, your mind opens inside.
Every time you share what you have, both get the double or even more.
'Cause belonging in not a belonging, but how we build up our shelter in the outer world.
And that's how we care for our home earth.
