About Me

Personality: courteous, amicable, resourceful, versatile, easy going, realistic, compassionate, adventurous, introspective.

I started working at the age of 6 and at 15 I owned a small business where I earned pocket money. At the age of 18 my life changed significantly: I moved to the UK unaccompanied by anyone, married someone from a completely different background and nationality(second hardest thing I have ever done in life!) and simultaneously I was studying in a non-native language and working full time.

By profession I am an accountant, soon to be an ACCA qualified (any buddy interested to study together for the advanced papers please do no hesitate to dm me). I can master anything, but I felt that my intrinsic motivation is not ignited enough by this path - at least not now, at this stage of my life- so I thought of a contingency plan. Therefore, I decided to volunteer in my spare time, and I ended up going to the hospital on a weekly basis. I have always had an inner calling when it came to elderly people, especially for ill and lonely ones. Just a simple gaze into their eyes and see how they emanate such purity, wisdom and unconditional love… . I feel to hug every single one and bring them in my home to live with me.

Despite not liking to admit it, I am a HSP person prone to frequent episodes of sadness, having a low pain threshold. Those episodes intensified after I found that I am on the verge of losing both of my parents: my father to multiple myeloma and my mum to heart diseases(first hardest thing I have ever had to witness and go through). As a positive side, I grew tremendously and became more caring and empathetic. I came to the conclusion that every person standing in front of me represents a past or future version of myself.
(By the way: I am not one of those people that advocate for and promote toxic positivity)

I am on a perpetual quest of finding unknown parts of myself and becoming the best version, I love music(obsessively), nature and hiking(obsessively), languages, and I love to encourage people and create for them psychological safety environments.
(I don’t drink, smoke or go clubbing.)

A few of my favourite quotes:

“You cannot heal in the same environment where you got sick.”
“Every saint has a past and every sinner has a future.”
“If you can’t understand why someone is grieving so much, for so long, then consider yourself fortunate that you do not understand.”
“Do not disturb yourself by imagining your whole life at once.”
“I am still learning how to go back and re-read my chapters without feeling like I want to set all my pages on fire.”
“If you begin by sacrificing yourself to those you love, you will end up by hating those to whom you have sacrificed yourself.”
“Before putting someone in their place, make sure you’re in yours.”
“Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.”
“When the winds of change blow, some people build walls, others build windmills.”
“Sometimes you know the answer, but you are not ready to accept it yet.”
“You need power only when you want to do something harmful, otherwise love is enough to get everything done.”
“The eye only sees what the mind is prepared to comprehend.”
“The only person coming to save you is the version of you that you have been avoiding.”
“What’s yours will arrive without force; be at peace and let life take its course.”
“I am not sure that I exist, actually. I am all the writers that I have read, all the people that I have met, all the women that I have loved; all the cities I have visited.”
“The most convincing sign that someone is truly living their best life, is their lack of desire to show the world that they’re living the best life. Your best life won’t seek validation.”
“A person often meets his destiny on the road he took to avoid it.”
“The world around you is only beautiful when you are at peace with the world within you.”
“Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times.”
“Working hard for something we don’t care about is called stress. Working hard for something we love is called passion.”
“Expose yourself to your deepest fear, and after that you are free.”
“We're born alone, we live alone, we die alone. Only through our love and friendship can we create the illusion for the moment that we're not alone.”
“We don’t see things as they are, we see things as we are.”
“If you cannot decide, the answer is no.”

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The main reason is to expand my global family. I want to feel the privilege of growing a few minutes/hours/days older with you and be grateful for your divine presence in my life.
I wish to meet people from various backgrounds and countries, and when I close my eyes and think of a certain country/place/food/ song to associate it with you.
I deeply love, cherish and remember every single person I meet -be it once or more. I am an explorer, therefore I believe that getting a flavour of the culture and people by actually meeting the locals cannot be traded for a cheap 5 star hotel experience and a few visits to some touristy places.

Music, Movies, and Books

(In this section I feel a bit of analysis is paralysis)

Music:
I am quite indecisive in this respect... I listen to a myriad of songs, but the top favorite are Hindi, followed by Arabic then Romanian ones.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I hiked Ciudad Perdida in Colombia as a charitable act.

I taught English in China.

I was the first foreigner to visit a school in a remote area in Feni, Bangladesh.

I attended my friend's wedding in Nepal.

I helped and guided my friend with her assignment pertaining to an in-depth financial analysis of Netflix. Thanks to this she managed to score 70%, which it was the minimum grade needed to manage to get a second class degree. It was imperative since it was the main condition to be accepted into the Master’s programme at a Russell Group uni. (It was the best feeling in the world because it was her dream to get there.)

Helped my friend with statistics and she managed to score 92%. Despite not being excellent at it, I studied a whole week to be able to fully grasp the material and explain her. (I felt over the moon, especially that she’s twice my age. I realised that age is just a number.)

Camped in Binshanliang peak, where right after arrival an extreme storm and rain commenced. It lasted the entire night. The tents got flooded, we were freezing and badly starving as couldn’t light up the portable stove. (Thanks to one of my students that gave me some pastries as a gift the day before departure, we managed to have a tiny dinner.)
In the morning some cows visited us, right inside the tent. What a memory! I miss you, dear Annieee 🫶
