Über mich

Hello Couchsurfing community, my name is Ioana and I live in Vienna. I went to a French school, studied in Scotland and grew up in Bucharest.

I love travelling and am a generally positive, high energy and bubbly person. I love meeting people and learning about cultures. Especially when there is food involved.

In fact, I split my time between a full time job managing the creative department of a marketing agency and cooking through the city of Vienna. My heart beats for food so much that not only do I cook, but I host events, write for a local magazine, moderate panel discussions and generally need out about food with anyone passionate.

I love doing cycle tours, swimming, tennis, skiing and trekking and was lucky to do the Camino de Santiago last year. 🐚

When I don't do any of the above, you can find me singing at a local Karaoke bar or tasting wine at some winery.

Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin

I love meeting new people and learning about cities from their locals, even though perhaps not born and raised there. I think it's the best way to really get a grasp of the local culture and mentality, while being social and sharing insider's tips.

Unfortunately the space in the flat I live in does not offer me the possibility to host anyone, however, I am more than happy to go out for a drink if you are in my city, give you local insights and show you around.

Musik, Filme und Bücher

Music: rock, classic rock, jazz, blues. Play some harmonica blues and I'll be the happiest person in the room. I grew up to the music of Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Metallica, Simon & Garfunkel, Bob Dylan, ACDC and The Doors. Now I'm usually jazzing & bluesing around with Aretha Franklin, Etta James, BB King, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Nina Simone and Ella Fitzgerald.
Now don't get me wrong, I will never say no to rock'n'rollin' with Chuck Berry, or jumping around to some cheesy 90's music, and can shamelessly admit that Katy Perry is my guilty pleasure.

Movies: I have an obsession for Bunuel's Charme Discret de la Bourgeoisie (for its delicate, intelligent and surrealist satire of our society and its conventions), an emotional attachment to Hickenlooper's Factory Girl (because of its cold portrayal of Andy Warhol, one of my favourite artists ever and the decadent representation of the 1960's) and an infatuation with Almodovar for the depth and darkness of his movies. I have also developed a passion for Asian movies, for their often breathtakingly beautiful and often colourful scenography. Apart from action movies, I enjoy watching anything, as long as it is either relaxing or somehow enriching.

Books: Even though in the past couple of years my readings were mainly about business, happiness and creativity, like Tony Hsieh's Delivering Happiness (about building an organisational culture focused on employees' well-being), De Bono's Lateral Thinking (about lateral thinking, duh!), Steven Johnson's Where Good Ideas Come From (about the patterns of innovation) and Brad Stone's The Everything Store (about the evolution of Amazon), The Great Gatsby, The Count of Monte Cristo and The Catcher in the Rye will forever be my favourite books.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

I (on my own and alone) independently rebranded my country, designed a 10 poster advertising campaign and exhibited it in Paris. It later became viral online and got published internationally.

Was ich mit Gastgebern teilen kann

I often like to talk about food, traveling, and sharing experiences. I've travelled to over 50 countries so far. I'm a curious person, a pretty damn cook and not a bad singer so you won't get bored with me.
