About Me

Hey there! This is my first time ever trying out Couchsurfing. I go backpacking around the world every chance I get and I tend to stay in hostels but I have heard way too many good things about CS so I thought it's time I give it a shot! :)

CURRENT MISSION

Mostly I am trying to finish this PhD I foolishly started, for the noble reason of "calling myself a doctor". Good thing is, with the excuse of going to conferences I manage to sneak in some travelling too :D

PHILOSOPHY

"Life is what happens to you while you're busy making plans", someone said once, so I try hard not to make any. Solid life philosophy, but impractical when the hostels are fully booked!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Meeting new people is one of the biggest joys in life, and unless you're lost in nature, people make a place what it is.

Also, like all backpackers I dread ever being called a "tourist" so I much prefer visiting a place with locals!

Interests

I love meeting new people and hearing their stories. I love being part of this global village the world is becoming and this community of like-minded travellers. I also love languages and I'm in need of practicing a few of them!

I'm a general geek, and I care very especially about technology. I grew up reading a lot of sci-fi and I am massively enjoying that the wild ideas I used to read about are becoming a reality all around us.

Last but not least, I *love* beer. Fancy a pint?

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once went to the other side of the world. Like, literally. I found this nifty plugin that computed the GPS coordinates of the exact antipode of any location on Earth. I put in my house in Madrid, found out that the exact other side of the world is *on land*, so I bought a ticket and went there.

This turned out to be in the middle of nowhere on the north island of New Zealand. Pretty much on the spot where my house would be on the other side of the world there is a farm. I had to trespass.

I met the owner. I said to him "So we're neighbours of a sort". He said, "Yeah, the furthest sort there is. Now close the door to the farm when you leave, I don't want the sheep escaping". This is how I met my anti-neighbour, the person who lives as far away from me as the Earth will allow. And he's a pretty cool guy.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can offer decent company and a good laugh. I bring a few stories in my backpack, and I am looking forward to collecting more :)
