Overview
About Me
Hey there! I'm Ian and I'm a flight attendant with Alaska Airlines here in the US. I get to travel a lot domestically for work and it also gives me greater flexibility to travel the world at large on my days off.
I have two degrees, one in Developmental Psychology and the other in Evolutionary Biology, and despite not using them directly in my field I am a scientist and a biologist first and foremost in my life. I love everything to do with animals, even the ones you are afraid of and I have a soft spot for neurology (and I don't mean my temples).
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Sometimes the best way to see the world is through the eyes of the people who live there. Going to hostels and staying in AirBNBs is nice, but meeting up with locals or having a free place to lay your head is without a doubt a better way to go.
I've always found the couchsurfing community to be full of open-minded, intelligent people with great conversation potential.
Interests
They vary as often as the seasons, but some things seem to persist. Mostly the need to explore the outdoors (hiking, biking, camping, kayaking, canoeing, just walking, etc...). I am a huge bio nerd and I will get excited about any kind of animal (especially ones I've never seen before). I also like museums (art, cultural, or thematic).
In general, if there is depth to something, I'd like to think I'm interested in exploring those depths.

Music, Movies, and Books
I enjoy them.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
A couple years back I went on a 100 mile paddle from Port Angeles to Olympia with the Lower Elwha Clallam tribe for Canoe Journeys 2012. It was an amazing pull with 96 other canoes, 50-60 tribes, and lots of native song and dance!
Teach, Learn, Share
I am an expert on everything, until I meet someone who actually is.
I am a professional amateur and will gladly discuss any topic as long as the well-informed can forgive me of my ignorance and the inexperienced are willing to learn with me. With that said, I would consider myself very knowledgeable about animal behavior and evolution (specifically systems and toolkits to elucidate information about a given species, if needed).
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can provide a calm presence and a hopefully intelligent conversation. Otherwise I'm good at making jokes at my own expense.
