About Me

I started my freshmen year of college, so far it's been fun and quite long. I've spent the year previous doing a gap year. I've sailed aboard a tall ship, bummed around the west coast trading work for room and board, lived on a Twelve Tribes farming community, worked in a conservation corp, and herded goats. I love nature, novels, and enjoy spending time with children and animals
I'm relatively new to couchsurfing, but I've spent more time meeting people and working through the website helpx.net. Here's a link to my profile for references and such: http://www.helpx.net/profile.asp?usercode=1925877IT

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I try and travel intentionally. I find I make better connections with people when I remove money from the equation, and couchsurfing is a vehicle through which to connect. The whole system allows for easier, enriching, and more meaningful travel, and I value and enjoy being a part of the community that each host provides. For me, the stay is really just an excuse to find those two things.

Interests

Ultimate frisbee, history, hacky sack, and older technology created before the use of electricity. I'm also quite interested in woodcarving, natural and alternative building as well as the broader facets of permaculture, specifically energy systems such as rocket mass heaters, compost heaters, solar power and battery storage. In addition to those things I enjoy taking care of/teaching children and working with animals. Oh and I've recently developed a strong desire to sail.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

2 weeks before the mast: http://historicalseaport.org/our-programs/2-weeks-before-the-mast/
To me it was such an unbelievably cool experience. Every day I got to live and sail aboard a tall ship, climb 90 feet above the deck, set and furl sails, sing and teach kids history, and occasionally mop up their puke. But it really was awesome.

Teach, Learn, Share

How to build a house using earthbags, superadobe, or hyperadobe. Easy woodcarving projects. Some good poetry.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A love for movies and TV shows. My interests in alternative building. And hopefully a few semi interesting stories.
In addition I'd be more than willing to do dishes, help cook, or various work for a couple hours, whatever will help.
