About Me
Hi!! :) My name is Irene and I am a 24 year old Medical doctor from Madrid. I have lived for a year in Brazil and traveled around South America for 4 months and loved using CS along the way.
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do rather than the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
Just like Mark Twain once said, I believe happiness starts when you step out of your comfort zone and wander into the world ready to discover and learn.
I consider myself to be an active, sociable and openminded person willing to cross every single dream in my to-do-list.
Some of my personal hobbies are playing piano, enjoying nature, listening to music, dancing, going to concerts, scuba diving or surfing when I can. I am very passionate about nature and animals and about three and a half years ago I decided to become a vegetarian. Becoming vegetarian was a decision I made because I believe our words and actions should agree with each other.
I don't get to travel as much as I'd want to but, but whenever I manage to do a trip I like to seize each day as much as I can.
Thank you for reading and hope you liked it!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I am on Couchsurfing because I believe it is the most complete and fulfilling way to travel. It allows you to immerse yourself in your new destination and truly learn about a different culture and way of life.
Besides, you might even get to make new friends from this experience and that is always something very positive.
Besides traveling with CS, I have been an Au Pair in both the Netherlands and Australia and so I understand what it means to be a guest in someone else's home.
I am excited to travel with CS again and get to know other cultures and countries through the local's eyes!
Music, Movies, and Books
My favorite kind of music is Indie (Mumford and sons, Florence and the Machine, The head and the heart, The tallest man on Earth...) though I also enjoy pop music, classical music and soul (Tracy Chapman, Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin...).
Some of my favorite movies are Captain Fantastic, Call me by your name, The perks of being a wallflower, Little Miss Sunshine, The pursuit of happiness, Intouchables, One day, The theory of Everything, Inception, Interstellar...
When it comes to books, my favorite book is The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón and I have loved most of his other books too. Other books I enjoyed are Eat, pray, love; The Yellow Ones by Albert Espinosa... I also love poetry and one of my favorite books is Skin Divers by Anne Michaels though I really like other authors such as Pablo Neruda, Rafael Alberti and Luis Cernuda.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One day that I recall as truly amazing is the day I went to Rottnest Island in Australia with one of my best friends.
It is a little island where the beaches look like absolute paradise and it is full of amazing animals and vegetation. Besides, these amazing animals called quokkas live there and they are the cutest, smiliest, most friendly animals I have ever met!
My friend and I were still learning how to surf and in Rottnest Island surfing isn't exactly easy. After a while, we managed to get into the water with our boards and when we got there, dolphins started to swim toward us and play with us jumping and diving beneath our boards!
It was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever lived and I remember it a really happy day!
