My husband and I have five adult children, and we often travel in pairs or small groups. We all have an interest in the different cultures of the world; we are crazy about food; we read a lot of books; we are all trying to make the world a better place. We practice following Jesus, and hope someday to be just like Him. I am an introvert, but that just means I need alone time after extended periods around people, and large groups are not fun for me.

I grew up in the Washington, DC area but I'm a native Texas and lived there for some years as a young adult. I have been in Southern California since I was 25. I worked in the field of refugee resettlement for many years, and after that made raising my children my full-time job. Since finishing that task I've enjoyed traveling in the Middle East and I am a volunteer English teacher, working online mainly in the Arabic-speaking world.

While teaching school in Libya a few years ago, my Egyptian friend told me that years ago, she and her family had made wonderful friendships with people through offering their home on couchsurfing. I am disappointed with the trend away from relationship-building in the large host-housing industry. I travel to learn, and I learn best through relationships.

Life of Pi, Les Miserables and Gone with the Wind are my three favorite books AFTER the Bible.
I like classical music, especially violin and piano concertos.
Among movies, I am very fond of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Ordinary People, and Manchester by the Sea. I loved Breaking Bad and Mr. Robot.

I love dating foreign languages. I have learned the introductory sections of every country I've visited and a few that I want to visit. I aim to learn at least two more alphabets before I die.
