About Me

CURRENT MISSION

keep smiling

ABOUT ME

I'm a little spot in the Universe... and at the same time I have a big Universe inside me, as every human being.

I think life is great, I'm so happy to be alive.

Love is wonderful.

PHILOSOPHY

Play your cards the best you can. Some years ago, when I was living in Canada, I met "Crazy Dave", a man who lived on the street and wrote poems to survive. He talked to me about his "positive spin" Philosophy of life. Basically, it sais that whatever happens, it's all in how you look at it. It's you that can give it a positive spin turning a bad situation into something positive.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

For a while I was offering coffee at my place (with views of the ocean and mountains) and being a guide for nice hikes. Later I've been very happy to also have people staying home. Recently I'm travelling a lot so not with a place to offer.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Great! thank you so much to the people that got this started!! and to all wonderful participants that make this possible! :-)

Interests

There are so many things that I'm interested in...
I love surfing and I love Nature.
I like to read and think about the Universe, about life and about the brain, our best treasure together with our body.
I enjoy hiking in the mountains exploring new paths and swimming in the ocean, snorkelling.
I love to gaze at the night sky and I also love to dance, specially contact improvisation, which I'm starting to learn.
I used to climb and sail which I still would do if days were longer...
I like cooking and good wine.
Travelling is one of my passions.
Some time ago I discovered a new "hobby", watching on the web the TED talks, check it out!

Music, Movies, and Books

Some of my favourite singers are: Ben Harper, Nora Jones, Van Morrison, Bruce Springteen, Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz, Cesaria Evora, Mariza, Celia Cruz...
and more music I listen to: Jazz, Bossa Nova(Caetano Veloso, Vinicius de Moraes, Joao Gilberto, Gilberto Gil, Maria Betania, Toquinho...), other Brazilian music (Carlinhos Brown, Vanessa da Mata, Zeca Baleiro...), Ethnic Music, and in general different tipes or music, depending on the moment.

Some books I really enjoyed: "A Booke of Days" by Stephen J. Rivelle, "The Physician" by Noah Gordon, "A Place Called Freedom" by Ken Follet, "A Confederacy of Dunces" by John Kennedy Toole and "Swimming to Antartica" by Lynne Cox.

Movies: "Into the Wild" (2007), "Death at a Funeral" (2007), "Merry Christmas" (2005)-it's amazing and it's a true story!! (from WWI)...
Two years ago I was attending to a course "History and Theory of the Cinema" and learned to appreciate old movies. I would recommend: "Metropolis" (1927), "A Night at the Opera" (1935), "Ninotchka" (1939) and "the Killers" (1946).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I stopped smoking... maybe it doesn't sound amazing but it's definetely one of the hardest things I've done in life. For the smokers: definetly worth!!

Experiencing the jungle at night (Amazonas), the eerie sounds, fireflies crossing the river, crocodiles very near by, thunders and lightnings illuminating the colourful flowers... pure Nature.

Checking that the World is round ;-)

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: I could teach some Astronomy hopefully under a starry night. It's awesome just to gaze at stars as our ancestors did. And it gets even better when you have a little knowledge about them. I could also teach handicraft (bracelets, wallets...), Spanish, Physics (not like in classes...), info about places I've been to, and whatever I can.

Learn: handicrafts, guitar and singing, what you think about life and what makes you smile.

Share: recipes, dance, music... moments!
