Overview
About Me
When I was 16 years old, I decided to live in a different country for a while. So, I went to Jasper, a small town in the Canadian Rockies, where I lived in a host family and attended the local high school for half a year. I was able to do lots of outdoor activities, like horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, skiing and -best of all- whitewater kayaking. The hardest thing I did in a kayak was a Class 3 whitewater drop, if anyone here is into kayaking ;)
I had the possibility to go swimming in a frozen lake for about 1,5 minutes (I don’t know if you can call that swimming, but at least I was in the water :P). The ice had been broken the day before for an event called the polar bear dip. They wouldn’t let me participate, because I wasn’t 18 years old yet, so I just came back the next day with my hostfamily to do it on my own. It was about -20°C that day. Swimming in lakes, rivers, the sea, etc. no matter at what temperature is definitely one thing that characterizes me ;)
After I graduated from high school in Germany, I volunteered in a Cambodian orphanage in a rural area of Takeo for a year. I had a great time, discovering a completely new way of living and learning a new language (Khmer) or at least the basics.
Back in Germany, I started studying electrical engineering and I am currently in my master’s. I am very interested in power electronics and everything that helps to accelerate the “Energiewende” to finally get to 100% renewable energy.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I have been traveling quite a bit, usually sleeping in a tent. I really enjoy the slow traveling, just taking my bike with a tent on the carrier and see how far I can go untill I find a I find a nice place for the night. I have also done this kind of traveling with a kayak in Southern Sweden and North-East Germany.
Now, I would love to discover a new way of traveling. I decided to go on Couchsurfing, because I love to meet people with a different cultural background.

Music, Movies, and Books
I started reading books before I even went to primary school. I really enjoy reading and I don’t really have a genre that I prefer. I love old literature as much as I love modern books.
Most of the time, I read realistic novels that are based on a true story or that at least could have happened like that. But nevertheless, one of my favorite books is “The name of the wind” by Patrick Rothfuss which is fantasy.
The probably most weird thing about me is, that I don’t really listen to music even though I like it. The reason for that is, that I am really bad at doing two things at a time. So, music is more active to me and not a passive background thing. I like going to concerts every once in a while, and I love making music myself. I started playing the violin when I was 6 years old and I practice once a week with the student orchestra of Aachen.
The second most weird thing about me is, that I pretty much never watch movies. Sometimes I do it with friends, of course, but I never just watch a movie by myself. It's probably because I grew up without having a TV. I prefer to go outside and do sports or hang out with friends instead of sitting in front of a TV watching a movie.
If you want to stay at my place, please tell me a weird thing about yourself so that I know you read my profile ;)
