About Me

Hi, I’m Izzy! I’ve been living in Seward on and off for the last 5 years, but have been a full time resident since ‘23. I absolutely love having the opportunity to introduce newcomers to this town that I have come to call my home. Seward has a vibrant year-round community and no shortage of beautiful scenery anywhere you look.

Currently, I wear many hats and can often be seen behind the wheel of a passenger bus, a boat, or my campervan Appa. I also enjoy creating things and working with my hands, whether that be cooking, woodworking, or fixing anything I find to be broken.

I like to consider myself a lifelong student with a perpetual hunger for learning. I am currently very interested in sailing and enjoy crewing with the local yacht club on race day. I love being on and around the beautiful ocean that we have here in Seward, and I am fortunate to work as a handyman and camp host on a small remote island in Resurrection Bay. It is a role that allows me to frequently engage with some incredible people while sharing in all that Alaska’s rugged wilderness has to offer.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Looking to meet interesting folks and see the world. The only thing better than experiencing something new is sharing that experience with a like-minded individual.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:
I like to challenge my taste in music as often as possible. As a guitarist I love listening to music that inspires my own musical creativity. Some notable guitarists would be Tommy Emmanuel, Chet Atkins, SRV, Eric Clapton, B.B. King, and Derek Trucks. I love everything from heavy metal to jazz to the most soulful of blues. Always eager to find new genres, so I welcome all your recommendations!

Movies:
• Anything Studio Ghibli
• The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
• Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
• Submarine
• Youth In Revolt
• Good Will Hunting
• Into the Wild
• Free Solo
• Harry Potter (Azkaban is my favorite)
• Lord of the Rings + The Hobbit (extended versions all the way)

Books:
• Hemingway — I particularly love his work as a short story writer
• Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance & Lila by Robert Pirsig
• David Sedaris
• I enjoy memoirs by comedians and other familiar faces — Trevor Noah and Pete Holmes have written some wonderfully funny and meaningful books.
• J.R.R. Tolkien

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I hiked over 300km on the Camino de Santiago in the north of Spain, obtaining the Compostela.

Teach, Learn, Share

I’m a fairly seasoned guitarist and a very experienced barista and am always happy to share what knowledge I have! I also used to work as a snowboard instructor, so catch me on the slopes for some free lessons. Would love to improve my Español, so bonus points if you can help with that!

Take me sailing!
