Finding a sense of belonging - with place, people, and occupation
ABOUT ME
I'm Isaiah. My friends would probably say pretty different things about me (I suffer from a bit of social chameleon syndrome) but everyone would probably say I'm a good person, a thinker, and unique. I think about stuff a lot, and nothing gets me going like conversation, so I try to gain cursory knowledge on lots of important topics so I can engage people. Grew up very introverted and have been trying to be more of a people person, which I think is closer to my nature, so I can be pretty awkward, but I'm getting better at filling out an extroverted personality.
PHILOSOPHY
I struggled a lot with pretty crippling depression throughout my childhood. My adult life has been focused on finding out how to find enjoyment in life, which I'm sometimes not the best at. I want my life to revolve around people, and to make the world better where I can.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Surfed with a few great people on a recent US roadtrip.
Interests
I went to school for Mechanical Engineering at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI and fell in love with energy and thermodynamics. I'm trying to find a way to mold my life and career around the energy industry, whether it be for a good company or through entrepreneurship. I spend a lot of time reading and walking around Grand Rapids, and love a few rounds of beers at the bar here in Beer City, USA. I like meeting people whenever I can.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I spent a summer in Bremen, Germany, working as an intern for Airbus. I had a rail pass for the trip and spent some time visiting family and friends in France and Stuttgart. I was robbed twice on the trip - had a bike lock cut in Bremen and had my bag w/ computer stolen while using the bathroom on a train.
Teach, Learn, Share
I know a lot about thermodynamics and the energy industry. I have a decent amount of knowledge about home building science and consider myself pretty expert on home energy efficiency. I can also talk all day about the energy industry - I can be a never-ending spout of facts and opinions when I find someone who is actually interested. Other than those specializations I try to know a little about a lot.
