About Me

CAN'T HOST DUE TO THE COVID PANDEMIC. I'm really sorry for this but it's not possible.

Yes, Isis is my real name, it's no abbreviation (and it doesn't need one ;) ) - Isis is the name of an Egyptian goddess and my parents found it browsing their encyclopedia in search of a baby's name.
I'm 34, married (so, no, I'm NOT interested in using CS for dating!!!), my husband and I brew beer and I love to write postcards to strangers all over the globe (check out Postcrossing.com if you'd like to learn more about it).
I like to cook and although I'm a vegetarian I prepare all kind of meals from vegan to steaks (my husband is a real meat lover :D ).
I'm no one going out to party and dance all night but I'm in for chatting over a beer or wine as well as for film or game nights.

//Guys, please: I don't accept friend requests from people I never met. I don't want to date you.//

Also: I'm travelling a lot and, quite logically, can't host when I'm not home.
Due to the pandemic, I do not host at the moment.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've wanted to couch surf for a while before I actually started (since I watched the German couch surfing documentary series "Auf 3 Sofas durch..." = on 3 couches in...) but until August 2018 all my solo trips consisted in visiting friends and family at whose I could stay. When I planned a trip to the UK (London and Kent) in September 2018, I finally signed up and couchsurfed for the first time with two great hosts. In 2019, I visited Denmark, Sweden, Finland, the Åland Islands, Estonia and Latvia in June and it was just a wonderful adventure on which I met many wonderful people! Later that year I spent a month in Quebec for research and stayed with wonderful hosts, who I was finally able to meet again in April and August 2022.
I like to feel as local as possible when I travel and, hence, to me staying with locals seems to be the best way to travel and explore other parts of this big beautiful and diverse world.
Before finding out about CS, I spent a few nights in Hamburg via airbnb and had a great host - we talked and talked each evening and during breakfast as if we had known each other for ages. And that is kind of what I imagine CS to be like - this hypothesis turned out to be quite right and so did most surfers I hosted so far. :)

Music, Movies, and Books

movies: Hot Fuzz and Some like it hot are my all time favorites; in general I like action movies, thrillers, fantasy films and comedies but also watch documentaries (travel documentaries to see the world!), drama, biopics, horror and anther genres
I had a huge DVD collection, then switched to BluRays but realized that I don't really need them as they are just standing around and although I can claim to own them, I also have to take care of them (mostly freeing them from dust)... So I stopped collecting and sold/donated/gave away most of them. I also watched tons of series and movies in general but lately watch a lot less and use the time gained for things that are more important to me and more useful ;)
music: Original Soundtracks and Scores of movies and video games, 60s-80s, sometimes 90s/2000s as that's what we listened to, when I was at school
books: Jean-Christophe Grangé is my absolute favorite author, followed by Dan Brown - I also really enjoyed Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes and Bram Stoker's Dracula

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

a dolphin tour on a boat at Tybee Island (Georgia, USA) with my best friend and her daughter - the dolphins jumped through the waves at reach of hand

my first couchsurfing experience was on a narrow boat in London - I couldn't just check "sleeping on a boat" on my bucket list but also met Katya, a great fellow couchsurfer with a lot of travel experience!

when surfing in Montreal I found an additional mom ❤

a few years ago, I started to take more time for enjoying the little things - sunsets, smells, pink skies, etc. When we meet, ask me about giant's cotton candy in Luxembourg (one of these special impressive magical moments of natural phenomena) ;)

Teach, Learn, Share

If you like beer, I'll be happy to show you German beer, especially craft beers, and taste them with you, of course! We also brew at home.
In case you prefer wine, we can also taste wine instead of beer ;D
Meals are there to be shared - so, food definitely belongs on this list of sharing!
I can teach you how to sew on my machine.
Would you like to be given advice on how to reduce (plastic) waste and live more sustainable? I'd be happy to!
On weekends sometimes go to the flea market and will be happy to take you with me (except during the winter break in Januarary/February, they're on all Sundays, on holidays and on some Saturdays)!
When I'm free to do so, I'll be happy to show you around Saarbrücken and its surroundings, including the UNESCO WHS of the Völklingen Ironworks.
In case you need help planning your (further) trip I can assist you and e.g. help you to get cheap train tickets.
The local culture in Saarland includes "Schwenken" (a special BBQ over open fire but DON'T call it "barbecue" :D) and my husband, who was born here, is a real master at this art of preparing a big stack of grilled smoky meat, so we'll voluntarily share this tradition with you. (Veggies can be "schwenked", too!)
My husband also plays the piano/keyboard/organ, so in case you do, too, or bring your own instrument,
you might play à quatre mains or just jam together.
I kept my old bike so I can lend it to you during the full days of your stay, so you might save some money you'd otherwise spend on bus tickets.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My ability and will to be enthusiastic about you and what you do :)
I'll always bring a little gift - not just because it's a German tradition to bring a "Gastgeschenk" (= guest gift) when being a guest at someone's place but mainly because I just love giving (in December, I turn into a little Christmas elf ;) - I can also give you advice on organizing your Christmas gifts to spare you a stressful holiday season, if you're interested in this).
Cooking together would be really great (if it's not veggie, I'll give it a taste but may not eat more of it because I just don't like the taste of meat, so please don't be offended, but I'll still be happy to have a new recipe to cook at home - for my carnivore husband :D).
I can also tell you how to brew your own beer.
I'll be happy to give you advice on how to reduce (plastic) waste and live more sustainable if this interests you :)
