ABOUT ME
Hello!
I'm a Mexican/USA binational. Born in Mexico, I grew up on both sides of the border, but mainly in Mexico and lived in Mexico City by choice for 20 years. I'm now living in Montreal.
I've taught ESL, as well as a freshman class in History and Geography at the UNAM. I'm currently doing a PhD in Communication Studies.
I'm open minded queer folk, I love to meet people and share my home with them. I find the CS community to be a wonderful world and great tool.
PHILOSOPHY
All you need is love.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I haven't hosted or travelled for a couple of years. I moved from Mexico city to Montreal a year ago and have been very busy with grad school. Having said that, I've been on the site since 2009, and have been a host and guest of strangers, friends and friends of friends for many years before that.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
"You look like you need a place to stay", a stranger said to me on a deserted street in the middle of a cold winter night in Valparaíso Chile. I had been knocking on the door of a hostel, and just as I came to realize there'd be no answer, this stranger passed in his car, stopped and offered me a couch on the spot. "I'm a couch surfer, you can trust me", he said. "Me too", I answered, "I joined the website a couple of months ago, but I've been doing it for years".

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Um... I lived in Mexico City most of my life. Everything is massive. Every day a Guiness World Record is broken. 20,000 people got naked when Spencer Tunic came through. LGBT Pride marches have over 200,000 people. The city was built on a flood basin in the midst of active volcanoes... qué más te puedo decir???
UPDATE: I moved to Montreal in 2015... I think that's the most amazing so far!
Teach, Learn, Share
I taught ESL to adults in Mexico City for some 14 years. I get contacted a lot on this site for advice on the matter. It's quite simple: Don't try to do it without training, and be good at it. DO NOT WORK FOR LESS THAN $200 MXN per hour, ALWAYS have a minimum of a two-hour class, and be willing to WALK AWAY from companies and institutes offering less. They need you more than you need them. You're better off teaching group lessons to your friends (and their friends, who will swiftly sign up) for a moderate fee per person. The Mexico City CS groups will come in handy for spreading the word. You can also put signs around C.U., Coyocán, Condesa and other trendy areas offering group or private lessons. Just make sure pay is up front.
