About Me

I'm a home-body dad who used to do tons of couchsurfing, hitchhiking, and general travel. Now I focus on raising two awesome kids with my wife, solving software problems, turning a side-project into a full-time job, and enjoying the beautiful sunshine while doing it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because it's awesome! I've been able to host a lot of really neat people from around the world, some of which I've then been able to meet on my travels. I've learned a lot about the places I've visited because of couchsurfing, too. Tours and books are great as well, but I love the idea that we're meeting up just because each of us likes to meet other travelers, and we're sharing knowledge because it's what we enjoy, not just because it's what pays the bills.

Nowadays, I'd like to expose my kids the wider world, and why not do it by inviting the world to visit us.

Interests

I like to hike, bike, swim, and camp. Geocaching! If you don't know what it is, I'll bring my GPS with me and show you. I also enjoy video game design, kayaking, eating, exploring, skydiving, virtual reality, indoor wall climbing, church stuff, reading, and trying out a new thing.

I love sustainable architecture, code, and lives.

Cats, dogs, rabbits, pigeons, canaries, rats, horses, goats, donkeys, chickens and a turtle make up the pets I've had thus far in life, and I'd love to have more! At the moment I'm focused on the little humans in my life, and don't plan on getting new animals for a while.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite reading tends to be whatever I currently have on hand, which would mean that right now it's a biography of Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers of the US and the subject of the rather awesome musical, 'Hamilton'. Which I may be listening to as I update my profile.

I really like animated films, be that something along the lines of The Beast Player, How to Train Your Dragon", or Avatar. And yes, I think that when you have enough special effects, it becomes an animated film. Regardless of it still looks like it's live action :D

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hitchhiking across, up, down, and around the US and Canada just because it seemed like a fun idea, and finding out that yes, it was!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to make chain-maille armor, or how to hitchhike in the US, or how to make a tent out of a body bag (surprisingly practical knowledge!), or bake an awesome breakfast cookie or build a digital world, or maybe even something else! I can also help you
