About Me

I am an only child who, while quite sociable, still relishes in his "only child time".

I am a person. I like couchsurfing requests that treat me like a person.

I am a very kinaesthetic person. This is not to say that I only roll and never gather moss, but the best way for me to establish a relationship with a new environment (or to deepen my relationship with a familiar one) is by strolling without intention, destination, or consideration for time. In a way, I'm walking without purpose, but in a way the walking is its own purpose.

I adhere to three rules:

1) Always try to glissen, never to glow.
2) Never walk into a bar insolvent.
3) Talk to everyone; say 'yes' to everything.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I host people who read my profile, so that they are certain that I am the right host for them.

Hosted a few people in Montreal and London over the past years, and though I love showing off my home and adoptive cities.

I still try to CS every time I take a trip. I have this community to thank for a number of enduring friendships.

Interests

I've tried my hand at many things, although I'll always be most passionate about music and writing. I'm also constantly interested in learning language(s). They keep your mind flexible, limber, force you to break your grammatical and syntactical habits, patterns of thought and so on. They can also teach a great deal about an unfamiliar culture.

When there's spare time I'm a film and card game enthusiast. Particularly bridge and whist.

I am an avid runner, which I try to practice in every new place I visit.

Music, Movies, and Books

For music, Eivind Aarset is my main man. I fulfilled a longstanding dream of seeing him in concert in March 2011 in Newcastle. Eight hour bus ride both ways was absolutely, 100% worthwhile. I managed to catch him again in London a few years later.

Other favourites are Rocco Deluca & the Burden, Arkells, Sia Furler, Parov Stelar, The Frames, and Mutemath.

The Limey is hands down my favourite film.

Literature is mostly modern American fiction, which I studied a good bit in university. Right now I'm working my way through the Jack Reacher series and it is good.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I stood before the King of Norway once (and under fairly exceptional, historic circumstances too!!). That was a pretty strong moment for me.

Teach, Learn, Share

Speak French, teach on Jean-Claude Van Damme and why he's the greatest action star of all time or advanced ironing techniques (your preference), I've got the drop on late 1960s or early 1970s blues-rock and psychedelic and how it shaped music history more than you think. I also make good drinks and have extensive knowledge about drinks history.

What I Can Share with Hosts

As I'm arriving from Canada more often than not maple syrup seems a decent bet.
