Hi! My name is Izem. I am an actor, arts lover, film and theatre maker, and most importantly a nomad. I moved to London last year from the U.S. When people ask me where I'm from I always have a tough time answering as there is no single answer for me. I have led a truly nomadic lifestyle. Growing up my family and I moved from country to country. I spent the biggest chunk of my life in the United States. In 2017 I graduated with a theatre and psychology double major from Davidson College in NC and then moved to London to pursue an acting career.
My travel addiction has been growing stronger and stronger each day. And so far no cure for it has been discovered. So I'm trying to make the most of it by travelling as much as possible. The best part of it is that I have friends from almost everywhere in the world and love to meet more everyday.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I believe that social connections are fundamental to the human spirit. Not only am I looking for a cheap and unique way to travel the world, but most importantly forming awesome connections with fellow like minded individuals from the couchsurfing community.

Interests

I am an avid outdoorswoman. I love being in nature. I go hiking, kayaking and camping frequently. My life is also centered around the arts. I've been involved with theatre from a very young age (mostly with acting), I love dancing and singing. Other than performing I am also an avid arts appreciator. Although I don't have as much time for painting and design now, I spent most of my life with paint brushes and a sketch pad. In fact some of my art work was featured in a gallery and an exhibition. I really hope that I can get back to this passion of mine soon.
I have also recently started getting into directing and film making. My biggest goal right now is to further my interest in the film industry into a full time career. When I'm not off travelling the world I can be found at local film festivals.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am a big movie buff so my list of favorite movies would be too long to fit here. Some of my favorite movies are Kill Bill, Spirited Away, Life is Beautiful, Whiplash, Neon Demon, City of God, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Departed, Pulp Fiction and Fight Club. Some of my favorite directors are Nicolas Winding Refn, Yorgos Lanthimos and Lars Von Trier.
I am a huge Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and Studio Ghibli fan!!
My guilty pleasure is watching Korean dramas.
I have a very eclectic taste in music. I listen to many different genres but mainly jazz, Indie and alternative rock. As for books, I'm not even going to bother to list them here. In general I like books that challenge my views. I usually go for non-fiction, social science and humanities books. I also have a weak spot for humour books

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I got a surprise job as a courier to go to China when I was 16. Completely unexpected but amazing and adventurous free trip. It was my first time solo travelling

Meeting people from different cultures is always the highlight of my trips. Learning about people's perspectives and simply just having a conversation with them can change the way I look at things and get a more authentic understanding of the places I'm travelling to
