Overview
About Me
I am an adaptable, unpretentious and open-minded person that needs very little to be pleased – on one side talkative, energetic, determined and all the time in motion, on the other side studious and thoughtful. I like to hang out and talk with people about different topics.
I am a sociology and philosophy graduate currently doing a master’s in economics at the Faculty of Economics, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. I am primarily interested in numerous environmental issues, but in contrast with mainstream environmentalists I am thinking about them through the lens of social justice, the democratization of society and neo-colonialism on one hand and the conservation of nature and rewilding on the other. I am active in this broad environmental sphere (maybe better “green-red” sphere) as a theoretician (lectures, reading seminars, scientific articles) and as an activist (Youth for Climate Justice, student group Iskra, Trade Union Youth Plus). In the last year or two I’ve devoted most of my time to activist group Youth for Climate Justice and plan for just transition from coal to better future for coal region Šaleška Valley in Slovenia (I am also a member of expert group Coal regions in transition founded by Slovenian Ministry of Infrastructure and currently working with Slovenian Miners Union on the topic of just transition). On top of that, I (sadly) recognize the superiority of economic discourse in today’s world and the need for economically sound policy proposals so last year I subscribed to a master’s programme in economics to also get an economic background.
Besides just mentioned, I am interested in numerous other topics that span from the ecology of big beasts (wolf, bear, lynx, jackal) and medical sociology to international relations (the Middle East, EU, international trade agreements), migrations (Fortress Europe, migrations connected to climate change) and sports (mostly NBA, Tour de France, UEFA Champions League).
When I find free time I ride a bicycle, play basketball, do some urban gardening at a friend’s garden, hike in woods, participate in some very basic fieldwork of Slovenian conservation groups (mostly tracking and counting wolfs and jackals with howling method), listen to the music and hang out with friends.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I don’t prefer mass tourism with accommodations such as overcrowded hostels or “sterile” and monotone hotels. I want to see the city differently, slowly and messy (in a positive sense), have some contact with locals, feel the "real" vibe of the city and be for the time living in the foreign city organic part of it. From this perspective, Couchsurfing is a perfect fit for me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I don’t really know what to write so I’ll just mention some of the potentially interesting things I’ve done: closed our grammar school for two hours as a protest against commodification of knowledge, participated at counting of Slovenian wolfs and also Slovenian jackals with “howling method”, wrote some articles and gave some interviews for Slovenian public media outlets, organized bunch of protests, explored an old (1945-1991) and untouched UDBA's (The State Security Administration in Yugoslavia) tunnel under Ljubljana's main attraction - mediaeval castle, worked at the local cheese dairy for 2 weeks, stayed for one month at farm specialized in the cultivation of flax - from sowing to making linen (I fabricated my own 3x2m linen, need to sew my T-shirt now (I hope I can do it with the help of my sister)).
