I suppose I'm a typical Finnish guy: quiet, stoic but underneath I've got a heart of gold. Or maybe silver. My friends boyfriend once described me saying "that you don't talk much, but when you do, it's worth listening to". I often listen what others have to say about the subject before I add my own thought on the matter. But get me riled up and you've got another thing coming. I do love a good argument.

At the moment I'm studying at the university of Lapland, on my way to a master's degree. What happens after that, remains to be seen.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've found it refreshing to chat with foreigners as the cultural differences create confusion, awkward situations and funny moments. And you can learn a lot from other people, no matter how brief your time with them. And shouldn't we all thrive to learn from each other? How can you even hope to understand the world if you don't try to understand the different people in it.

Interests

I like to hang out with my friends, listen to great music (at least in my opinion :) ), work out at the gym, running in the dark when it's raining (I'm just weird that way), playing some video games and reading a good book. I especially enjoy spending time in the wilds, be it summer or winter, in national park or untamed wilderness. I prefer hiking to skiing but with good equipment and company both can be very enjoyable. I prefer the northern nature and I've hiked quite a bit in the Finnish Lapland and northern Norway. I also try to go to at least one hunting trip per year, usually in the northern Sweden.

Or sometimes I like to do nothing at all, just hang out in my home.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Foo Fighters, Pantera, Gojira, Stam1na and Disturbed to name a few. Pretty much anything from rock to metal. Sometimes an occasional jazz or blues song.

Movies: Pretty much anything from Stanley Kubrick or Quentin Tarantino. I'm also a major sucker for fantasy and scifi films. Don't tell that to my friends though, I've got an image to keep.

Books: Can't single out one, mostly fantasy but sometimes an occasional "book classic". And of course the endless amount of books for my studies.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

On Summer 2015 I suddenly decided to ride a bicycle from Rovaniemi to Oulu. Weather was supposed to be sunny and warm but of course after few hours it started to rain quite heavily. Then I tried to take a shortcut through the forest roads and got lost (though I would prefer wording "temporarily out of road"), so I walked a few kilometers through forest and swamps carrying my bike.

After fifteen long hours, I finally arrived to my destination, cold and hungry but still alive. And I even could walk normally after a couple of days.

Though now that I think about it, this thing might qualify as more crazy than amazing. :)

Teach, Learn, Share

Trust in yourself and your abilities. Key to success is to be one with yourself. And you can't learn to trust others if you don't trust yourself. Also, always keep an open mind. Looking past your own values and ideas will get you far. Never think you're better than someone else, even if their view of life contradicts your own in every turn. And never belief you're ready, there is always room for improvement and development.
