About Me

Hi,

I'm just a Dutch guy that likes to travel, to live in unfamiliar surroundings, meet new people and improve in any way travel offers.

Since I'm financially challenged my form of travel mostly involves hitchhiking and camping.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As I mentioned I don´t have a very wide budget. Couchsurfing therefore seems like the logical and very appealing alternative to paid accomodation. Of course the opportunity to make friends while travelling is enough motivation to give this thing a try.

Interests

I´ve played badminton for over a decade and although I´ve stopped playing(in order to travel more), I´m still incredibly passionate about it.

Despite not playing anymore doesn´t mean I don´t exercise or play sports. Which I still do on the road in the form of strength (bodyweight)training and various team sports when the opportunity presents itself.

I also like to read, both fiction and non-fiction. My main focus is philosophy and psychology, but I also read about history and economics.

Warning: talking with me about these subject can cause me to become overly joyous and passionate. Enter at your own risk.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy music, but don't care too much about any individual genre.

As for books. Some have been very enlightening.

Just a small list of the ones that've made a real impact:
Civilizations and its discontents
The better angels of our nature
Thinking fast and slow

Currently reading Origins of political order.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I´m not a good judge of the amazingness of my experiences. Still here are some things that may qualify.

I once fasted for 9 days. It was a interesting experience and I still fast from time to time but rarely longer than 2 days.

I once hitchhiked from pai to chaing mai(thailand) in the back of a pickup truck. In hindsight this doesn´t seem to be very amazing, but at the time it felt incredibly exciting.

Teach, Learn, Share

Dutch, for anyone who wants to learn a beautiful yet useless language.

English, for anyone who wants to learn english with a somewhat dutch accent.

Chess, for people who want to learn and improve their chess and for people who don't yet realize they want to learn chess.

Foraging. I travel cheap, foraging is free. though my knowledge isn't extensive, it is highly practical.

Hitchhiking, though it's hardly a skill, I find many people never consider doing it and I enjoy changing their minds.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My wonderful personality.
Whatever kind of food I'm carrying at the moment.
Stories from the past and plans for the future.
Many wonderful chess games
