About Me

Hello there. I’m Jack, a born-and-raised Londoner. Though I've been lucky enough to see a fair bit of this world, I'm always pulled back to my stomping ground of Camden Town. I'm unable to host at the moment as I have sublet my this year whilst travelling - when I get back in October, please do send requests and I'll try and accommodate you. As a rule, I only accept requests from travellers who tell me a little about their visit. I like to host people who understand they are staying in my home, not an Airbnb.

Earlier this year, I travelled across the US by train, stopping in small towns and interviewing people I met along the way. For the next trip, I'm planning to travel from London up to Scotland and explore a bit of my own country.

I'm fully vaccinated, open-minded and am drawn to Couchsurfing over hostels, Airbnbs and hotels because I believe the most authentic way to travel is to stay with people who actually live there. Perhaps we can share a meal or glass of wine and trade life stories. I'm really keen to learn something new in each place a I stop, whether it's a skill, a forgotten piece of history or a life lesson I can take away. Perhaps you'll share something with me, and I'll share something with you?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My mum hosted Couchsurfers (in its early days) when I was a teenager, and it was eyeopening talking with people from far flung corners of the world.

I've stayed on many sofas in my time and much prefer it to hotels, motels and airbnbs because the experiences are so much more genuine. Staying with locals who can share their knowledge gives you an insight into a place which you'd otherwise never see. Whether it's local music or comedy, visiting a hidden bar or sipping great coffee, why not do it with someone who knows the area?

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Heres two!

1) I mentored an 18 year old Eritrean refugee to help him get a job and take the first steps towards pursuing an education.

2) Last summer, I drove from London to Spain and spent 2 months living in a remote region of Andalucia, amongst the lemon, orange and olive groves. The best part? I told my boss I was "working from home" in London and they never found out. You can read about my experience in a feature I wrote for Lonely Planet:

Teach, Learn, Share

I was raised vegetarian (though I eat meat now), so perhaps I could cook you a delicious meal? If you're interested in screenwriting or comedy, I could also give you some pointers, feedback or chat through ideas.

Recently, I've become a lot more interested in self-improvement in a way I wasn't a few years ago. I could read a dozen books to find the answers, but thought it might be more interesting to learn from other peoples' experiences, triumphs, regrets and life lessons. So perhaps we can trade stories and see if there's something we teach each other - or a different way of viewing the world that we'd previously overlooked?
