About Me

I grew up in Melbourne, Australia, mostly enjoying mathematics and programming at school, playing in the school band and doing a little drama on the side in the form of school musicals.

When I was 18 I left Melbourne to focus on Computer Science full time for 5 years at University of NSW in Sydney, Australia. During this time I played go, squash, did urban exploration, and lived with my girlfriend. I also kept a blog about my life and a small photo journal.

At some point I became very self conscious, split up with the girlfriend, and both the blog and the photo journal disappeared. I was into drawing for a little bit too. But in short my university personality disappeared altogether.

After that I was living in California for a year working full time and not getting out much. I did focus on myself, taking more photos, going on a few hikes and getting my motorcycle license and riding along the very beautiful and free interstate 280.

Then I got fired and went traveling in South America starting in Cusco, Peru, went out to the jungle for a bit, then came back to Cusco and wound up in Lima for some weeks.

After that I left for Berlin and stayed there for a year eating into savings, mostly partying and trying to get involved in the underground club scene in an exploration outside my until then very straight life. I have a basic feeling for what it might look like / how it might progress if I went back to that.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet people, share the experience of living, to save money traveling, get a true local experience; and eventually to offer these things to fellow travelers.

Right now I'm feeling very refreshed from a long sabbatical and I'm back in Sydney renewing my visa before going back to work in California.

In the weeks that I'm staying here I thought it was a good time to try out couch surfing instead of staying with people I already know.

I'm interested to have children one day and interested to spend time with parents of young children.

Techno / dark electronic music. It changes all the time, right now I'm listening to this:

I loved the Matrix, the little prince, animal farm, 1984, the alchemist

More recently I enjoyed a biography of Henry Miller and The Steppenwolf by Herman Hesse

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I had a brief argument with a homeless guy. But it was amazing, ask me about it.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love cooking together, I can teach you to play go or take photos with you.

I speak a little German, not much but happy to share.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Conversation, cooking, cleaning, I can do a few card tricks, enjoy getting high, telling stories from the road, speculating about the true nature of the universe.

I talk a lot with some people but very much enjoy to share a presence without talking.

I'll happily teach you basics for piano and cooking simple dishes, pasta, rice and veg.
