About Me

I'm 27, since graduating I've traveled alot. A "career" has appealed to me less and less the more I travel. So I just do things that interest me or earn me some money to travel some more! This will continue for as long as I can fend off questions from family and friends with the words - Gap year/s. I get pretty restless if I stay in 1 place too long.

I love cycling, especially long distance touring, it's a great speed at which to see a place. I've cycled from England to the south cost of Portugal with my brother and will never forget that trip! Beautiful. I've just started rock climbing - which is amazing, and I'm wondering how I survived without it for 27 years!

I love running, especially trail running, and have my eye on doing an ultra one day just to see what it would be like. The outdoors generally is a massive passion, I'm planning to go to Canada in 2018 to work as a tree planter in the mountains which would be a cool experience.

I enjoy most sports, but especially basketball, which I've been obsessed with since a kid. I still play, and also do a bit of part time writing about the NBA.

WWOOFing has been a great way to travel, and I'm interested in sustainable agriculture generally. I've also volunteered on non organic projects around the world like training huskies in Northern Sweden, at a yoga retreat in New Zealand, restoring ancient Greek walking trails on a stunning Greek island called Skopelos, and helping out at an adventure sports retreat in South West Portugal.

Reading is one of the perks of not having a career! I have no money but I've got plenty of time! I've always got my head in a few books, especially travel writing of all kinds, but fiction, philosophy etc.... all sorts interests me. I love book swaps! If you have a favourite I haven't read, let's exchange!

My travel philosophy is pretty much to live in the moment, valuing things properly, limiting ego, doing what you love, not getting stale and repetitive, maintaining innocence and asking questions.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I surfed in Auckland at the end of my NZ trip for a week which sort of saved my bacon as I was out of cash. I stayed with the loveliest of families, they were absolute gems.

Interests

Lots of stuff.

WWOOFing. Basketball. A good book. Sunsets. Generally good and open people. Wine/Pimms/Guinness. Tea. Running. Reckless dancing. Music festivals. Mountains. Rivers. Good food. Independant coffee/book shops. Writing. Yoga. Seeing people for the first time in a long time.

Music, Movies, and Books

Bon Iver, The Stones, Tom Petty, The National, Mumford, Stone Roses, Libertines, Jarle Bernhoft, Jungle, Rodriguez, Naughty by nature, K-OS, De La Soul, Jurassic 5, Otis Redding, Muse, Kasabian, Parliament, Gary Clark Jr, and on and on and on.

Krishnamurti, Chomsky, Tolkien, Born To Run, Kerouac, Game of Thrones, Hermann Hesse, Jack London, Sebastian Faulks, Jon Krakauer, Charlie Brooker.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Living in NY for a year and then roadtripping across the states with my lovely cousin and a buddy called Charlie. Personal highlights were the Rockies aaaand Chicago - One pizza lasted me 4 days. It was ridiculous.

'Straya is lovely and keeps pulling me back - Margaret River is gorgeous and city wise Melbourne was fun.

The whole of the South Island is stunning in NZ. Big open spaces.

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to learn lots of languages! And that is my primary mission. I have started (at a snails pace admittedly) to learn the guitar.

I've spent 9 months working as a timber framer which has energised an interest in woodwork generally and japanese tools in particular. Romantic notions of the perfect log cabin are now common daydream topics.

Permaculture, travel, whatever you want to chat about really! I think I'm starting to repeat myself so am going to stop writing now!

Cheers :)
